Over the next ten years one million Afghans were killed and approximately four million fled the country. The war in Afghanistan was largely ignored in the West -- the trickle of information that left the country came from Western journalists and filmmakers who entered Afghanistan illegally, ignoring Soviet threats of arrest and execution. Breakdown in SALT talks after Soviet invasion of Afghanistan

Circa Jan 3, 1980. Carter breaks off talks after Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Addressing the then week old invasion, Indiana Sen Richard Lugar speaks of the dangers of being "shut out" of the access to oil, metals, and minerals that are "absolutely required" for full employment and raising the stanadards of living in the US Lugar says that "without war, we could lose oil ..." but it appears that he meant EVEN WITHOUT WAR from his following statements. George McGovern also is quoted on the situation as is Howard Baker (the newscast develops technical difficults into his remarks)

David Harrell:  North Atlantic Terrorism Organization is a rogue, would-be world government that has no legitimacy. The news repeaters who accept the claims of this international mafia as if it were a legitimate organization with a legitimate mandate, begin from a flawed premise. Look at a map and ask whether Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Syria (next country targeted) or Turkey (being leaned upon to join) are “North Atlantic” states. Also ask around: “Does the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics still exist?” Obviously not, but even more to the point: The Constitution for the States of America grants a war power to the Congress for domestic protection against foreign INVASION [of the same States]. It's not there for the advancement of some amorphous alleged “national interest” that floats all around the planet. It's not there for "regime change" or "spreading democracy." It's not there for international policing or plundering under the purported "authority" of, or in leadership of, any international combine -- be it called NATO, the "United Nations," or anything else. Also, of course, the Congress has to actually *declare* the war, which it's not bothered to do since WWII. (Vague, open-ended "Authorization of Force" is NOT a declaration of war.) A further look through the ignored Constitution will find there is no warrant for a permanent standing army AT ALL. Lefty friends, this is where a healthy respect for all provisions of the Constitution – not just the fashionable ones – would do us all good. Let's start insisting that the government return to respecting the law of the land in every detail -- the same way they enforce it against you or I. CLOSE NATO. CLOSE THE BASES. BRING THE TROOPS AND SAILORS HOME. END THE EMPIRE.

Massoud explores the life of the late Afghan leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, who struggled to liberate Afghanistan from the Soviet invasion and the Taliban. Many believe that his assassination on September 9, 2001, was ordered by Al-Qaeda to help clear the way for the attacks of September 11, 2001. These extraordinary stories offer rare insight into the being of a remarkable man whose stature has never been fully recognized in the West.

Just Islam

Just Islam:  Brief history of the destructive Saudi Wahabbism with British help While Islam as a faith is the main religion in 48 countries, and Muslims around the globe are rapidly growing, Saudi Islam is the main sectarian movement in Saudi Arabia, and its influence is also rapidly growing. Acting as the protector of Islam through its own form of Islam, while it remains an American client state through its location, petrodollar’s cheque book, and American diplomatic and military protection, it could be argued that among the major influential players, Saudi Arabia’s policies, its own form of Islam, and its relations with the US, undoubtedly constitute one of the most serious threats to the security of the world today. Indeed, since the eighteenth century, and in conjunction with the Wahhabi religious establishment, Saudi Arabia became the centre for a new brand of religious imperialism based on sectarian movements. For nearly a century, the kingdom’s religious fervour kept the oil-rich country in the Western political camp. Today, the existence of radical Islamic groups is in part a legacy of the Saudi form of Islam, not Islam itself, and the Saudi-US alliance, and of political decisions made to address a different set of security concerns which helped no one accept the US projects. While Islam itself as a faith is not a threat to international security, it is Saudi Islam that is a threat. Indeed, it is fair to say that the problems within the Muslim world today rise not from Islam itself, but from the Saudi form of Islam, Muslim religious leaders who are relying on Saudi support, and their own interpretations of the Quran. It is also fair to say that questions pertaining to why Americans see Islam as a threat to world stability is because of the American failures to distinguish between Islam as a faith and Saudi Islam. In the US, Islam has been perceived as a threat to its civilization. However, while Americans knew that Islam itself is not a threat to their civilization, the majority of American politicians, journalists, and ideologists have ignored the truth that the threat is coming from Saudi Islam. This is seen as a tactic to avoid any damage to the relations with the House of Saud in order to keep economic and political interests alive. As a result, the Saudi-US relationship and the Saudi Wahhabi expansionist policy not only transform Muslim world politics, but also world politics. Saudaisation movements may expand into broader struggle throughout the Arab and Muslim nations and beyond. In some parts of the Muslim world, steps toward Saudaisation have already begun while the US is turning a blind eye to the Saudi rulers. At the same time, the US is also busy trying to convince the world that their policies towards Saudi Arabia is about promoting democracy and protecting human rights. .... we are already seeing the war in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, in Iraq, in Lebanon, in Gaza, in Yemen and of course, the non-stoppable Wahhabi-American pressure on Syria. Why? This is because Wahhabism itself is nothing more than an extension of Western imperialism. This short paper shed light on the roots and origin of the Saudi Wahhabism. ROOTS OF WAHABBISM: .... it was actually the British who initially provided the Saudis with the ideas of Wahhabism and made them its leaders for their own purposes to destroy the Muslim Ottoman Empire. Details of the memoirs of the British spy available in the main article. As a result, a small Bedouin army was established with the help of British undercover spies. In time, this army grew into a major menace that eventually terrorized the entire Arabian Peninsula up to Damascus, and caused one of the worst Fitnah (violent civil strife) in the history of Islam.[4] In the process, this army was able to viciously conquer most of the Arabian Peninsula to create the first Saudi-Wahhabi State. After the death of Muhammad ibn Saud, his son, Abd al-Aziz, became Ad Diriyah’s new emir who captured Riyadh in 1773. By 1781, the al-Saud family’s territory extended outward from Ad Diriyah, located in the Arabian Peninsula’s central region of Najd, about one hundred miles in every direction. In 1788, Saud, son of Abd al-Aziz, was declared heir apparent. He led his Wahhabi warriors on more raids.[6] To fight what they considered Muslim “polytheists” and “heretics”, the Saudis-Wahhabis shocked the entire Muslim world when in 1802, invaded Iraq’s Shiite majority, sacked Karbala, where Hussein, the grandson of the prophet Muhammad and the leading Shiite martyr is buried, and also demolished the massive golden dome and intricate glazed tiles above Hussein Bin Ali’s tomb, a holy shrine to Shiite Muslims. In the same year, the Saudi-Wahhabi warriors committed another atrocity in Taif, just outside Mecca. Again in 1810 they ruthlessly killed many innocent people across the Arabian Peninsula. They raided and pillaged many pilgrimage caravans and sever major cities in Hejaz including the two holiest cities of Makah and Medina. In Makah they turned away pilgrims, and in Medina they attacked and desecrated Prophet Mohammad’s Mosque, opened his grave, and sold and distributed its valuable relics and expensive jewels. The Saudi-Wahhabi crimes angered the ottomans. In 1818, an Egyptian army destroyed the Saudis-Wahhabis army and razed their capital to the ground. The Wahhabi Imam Abdullah al-Saud and two of his followers were sent to Istanbul in chains where they were publicly beheaded. The rest of the Saudi-Wahhabi clan was held in captivity in Cairo. The destruction of the Saudi-Wahhabi warrior’s alliance did not last long. It was soon revived with the help of British colonialist. In 1865 an official treaty was established between the British and the Wahabi House. The twentieth century’s Saudi Arabia comprises the third period of Wahhabis political power. It has changed Saudi Arabia dramatically and the Saudi-Wahhabi’s kingdom has changed the century significantly. The first interval began in 1902, when Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud captured Riyadh and proceeded to re-establish a Wahhabi Kingdom. In 1904, Abd al-Aziz captured Anaiza, an oasis near Hail. In 1913, he captured Al Hasa Province, but had no idea that he had just acquired a quarter of the world’s oil. In 1913, the British helped ibn Saud with the establishments of the Ikhwan (Muslim Brotherhood), an army of fierce religious warriors. The Ikhwan looked for the opportunity to fight non-Wahhabi Muslims—and non-Muslims as well—and they took Abd al Aziz as their leader. The Ikhwan movement began to emerge among the Bedouin. They abandoned their traditional way of life in the desert and moved to an agricultural settlement. By moving to agricultural settlement, the Ikhwan intended to take up a new way of life to enforce a rigid Islamic orthodoxy. To achieve his goals, on December 26, 1915, Abd al Aziz signed treaty with Sir Percy Cox, Britain’s political agent in the Arab Gulf. The British praised Abd al-Aziz as the greatest Arab man, and recognised his [Abd al- Aziz] sovereignty over Najd and Al-Hasa (central and eastern Arabia), while Abd al-Aziz promised the British that he would not have any dealing with any other country without the British approval and supplies. In addition, the British praised Abd al-Aziz despite his unattractive traits. Indeed, when in 1915, there were more than 200 hujar in and around Najd and nearly 100,000 Ikhwan waiting to fight, the British supplied Abd al-Aziz with weapons and money. The word hijra (hujar) was related to the term for the Prophet’s emigration from Mecca to Medina in 622. This period ended in 1934, with the declaration of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of Abd al-Aziz Ibn Saud. Since then, Abd al-Aziz declared the relationship between oil and religion. Indeed, after establishing his British-made Wahhabi State, the Wahhabi king and imam Abd al-Aziz became an autocratic dictator who named the whole country after his own family, calling it the Kingdom of "Saudi” Arabia." The Ikhwan warriors under the Saudi Wahabis went on a fighting sprey all over the peninsula. In 1922 they as far as attacking Amman, capital of Trans-Jordan under British control. This displeased the British. Abd al-Aziz apologised to the British. The British asked him to draw borders between his kingdom and Jordan, Iraq, and Kuwait which explains how these regions became separate sovereign countries. Today, although a few Wahhabi religious leaders have tried to “distant” themselves from the House of Saud’s brutality and anti-Islamic policies in a vain attempt to save Wahhabism’s image from further deterioration, most of the top Wahhabi religious leaders are still firmly behind the House of Saud. In fact, most Wahhabi leaders have openly supported the House of Saud’s unpopular domestic and foreign policies. Indeed, in the Arab nations, the rise of extremism in the form of the Wahhabi movement during the twentieth century could not have taken place without the huge investments made by the Al-Saud family in conjunction with the American in the name of democracy, freedom and human rights to destroy Arab nationalism, socialism and of course Islam. This has intensified since the discovery of oil in the 1930s, reached its peak during World War II, and the Cold War, and took more extreme directions since the establishment of the Iranian Islamic Republic in 1979, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the same year.

Andrew Fair:  I think this is a fundamental dilemma for the US: the risks of action seem equal to risks of inaction. It is possible that the US is simply too late to affect a favorable outcome; while it seems evident that the absence of US intervention has led to a humanitarian nightmare, it is also possible that any action taken at any time would merely open the sort of pandoras box that we saw in Afghanistan after the Soviet defeat or Iraq following the 2003 invasion. It's clear that al Qaeda and other unsavory forces are already acting "on behalf" of the resistance, it's not so clear what sort of influence they have with the fractured resistance movement. Perhaps the devil we know is better than the devil we don't...perhaps.

Eathmael Galaudu

Eathmael Galaudu:  “The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al-Qaeda. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the ‘devil’ only in order to drive the TV watcher to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US . . .” — Pierre-Henri Bunel Questions have been asked with no answers forthcoming. Observations had been made with no tangible contradictory opinion forthcoming. Alarm has been raised times without number with those responsible for alarm response kept mute. Who are the men behind the mask of Boko Haram? Is Boko Haram truly an Islamic extremist fighting for Islamisation of Nigeria? Are they the followers of Yusuf who was killed after being captured alive fighting for the revenge? What are the real motive behind attacks on churches and other places of worship? As the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria recently said “is true that there are Boko Haram Members or sponsors are in Executive arm, bi-cameral house, Army, SSS, police and Judiciary? Hypocrite, as defined in Five precept of budha is “To abstain from taking life; to abstain from taking what is not given; to abstain from sensuous misconduct; to abstain from false speech; to abstain from intoxicants as tending to cloud the mind” In trying to answer the above question, I crave your indulgence to take you back to strikingly similar scenario that has happened in another part of the world. Since war began in Afghanistan, the US has been using completely damning and completely empty phrases at every opportunity. “Damning ” because the phrase carries all the unspoken horror, and all the unspecified terror that Bandits want the world to feel – every time there is any activity that the USA disapproves of. “Empty” because nothing, despite Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, has ever been publicly found, no trials have been held that we know of, and no one has been convicted of being part of Al Qaeda – except the dead. So – What exactly is Al Qaeda? Like Boko Haram, who exactly are the Boko Haram members? Therefore it is quite baffling when the same United State government links Boko Haram with Al-Qaeda. It is a fact that the US government trained, armed, funded and supported Osama bin Laden and his followers in Afghanistan during the cold war. With a huge investment of $3,000,000,000 (three billion US dollars), the CIA effectively created and nurtured bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda terrorist network; using American tax- payers money. In one of the BBC news article, it was quoted that “…Bin Laden left Saudi Arabia in 1979 to fight against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The Afghan jihad was backed with American dollars and had the blessing of the governments of Pakistan. He received security training from the CIA itself.” “…[Osama bin Laden] received military and financial assistance from the intelligence services of Pakistan and the United States.” I know many people will be carried away by the so called ‘claims of responsibility’ and video shown recently on BBC where certainly Shekau spoke about the activities of Boko Haram. When United Nations building was bombed in Iraq, there was a group who claimed responsibility for the attack and Video posted on YouTube to support it. The whole world believed the claim as gospel truth until someone who is not convinced decided to scrutinize the story. After careful trackback of the websites domain address used by the supposed ‘Al-Qaeda’ it was discovered that the sites originate form United States of America. California specifically. Playing double you might say. Secondly, it was reported that a family of four were on their way to Baghdad when the United State forces in Iraq stopped them for search at check point. After the search, they were asked to go. Unknown to the innocent Iraqis, a magnetic remote control bomb has been planted in their vehicle by US forces. Miraculously, the man decides to buy fruits in a local market with his family before they proceed. He was still in the market when he heard powerful explosion that send everybody running for safety. International news media immediately went on air with a breaking News of a suicide bomb blast in Iraq. The man quietly charter a taxi with his family and reported this issue to a local head in Iraq who latter brief press men that the occupying forces are the ones behind the bomb and not any faceless group. Skim milk masquerading as cream. Moreover, I have read it in more than three National dailies an allegation that it was Professor Jerry Gana who was the one who bail Muhammad Yusuf when he was arrested by security agencies. As weighty as this allegation is, Jerry Gana has never deny it publically. This led us to another important question. What is the relationship between a top Christian Association of Nigeria Member and Leader of radical Islamic group? Are they family relations, friends or business associates? I am curious to know if there is also possible links between some Christians recently arrested trying to Burn a church with Boko Haram Christian friend. Shehu Sani was able to facilitate a meeting between late Fugu family and Obasanjo a while ago during which Obasanjo took a list from the group and promised to get back to them. Did Obasanjo tell the President before he went and did he report back to the authority? The man who received Obasanjo was killed hours after the meeting and ever since nothing is heard of that initiative again. Could it be possible that some forces who wanted to close that window carried out the killing? The SSS paraded some amputees after the UN building attack, where are they? Has anybody heard anything that was declared wanted by the SSS since then? The president on Sept 3 said the government had strong leads on masterminds of terror, where are they now? Which party has been described as “a nest of killers” by one of their own since 2001? Who is hiding what by killing the leader of a deadly group threatening security of the country captured alive? Why is former Gov Modu Sheriff being shelved from arrest despite overwhelming evidence that he knows the answer to questions about Boko Haram? Kodunga who confess recently to be an active member of Boko Haram has been jailed. Does it mean the SSS has not obtained vital information that can lead to the arrest of the so called Spokesman and its leader? This is because an important member of a sect as its former spokesman, are supposed to have knowledge of the group operations. We are living in the age where surveillance through information technology software made it possible to detect a location where any call originated from. Domain name and internet protocol service can also track where websites are located anywhere in the world. Despite this, our security agencies made us believe that they don’t know where calls or an online message sends to claim responsibility for some of this attacks originated from. More importantly, Shekau made appearance recently on BBC. It is now time for them to trace his state of origin, local government, school attended, friends and family and any other vital information that can lead to his arrest. If they refuse to take necessary step in arresting this issue, then I will concur to our President arguments that Boko Haram truly exits in our security agencies. Our inability to address the issue objectively without withdrawing to religious or ethnic cocoon has now magnified into national threat. When the issue of Niger Delta Militants and OPC rears its head, the government threats it as a political issue instead of viewing it using national lens. Since independence in 1960, Nigeria has proved to be a cat with nine lives. Many countries in the world are actually envious of our God made shock absorber that has been able to subdue many ills. With deadly issues of ethnic/religious war staring us in the face, I am afraid we are driving towards the end. For any meaningful headway in this security logjam, steps must be taken immediately to address the followings. Almajiri reform and enhanced effective poverty alleviation policies and enforcement by the government. Isolate and address grievances of all interest groups as fair as possible-Government regulation of preaching in religious gathering; effective job provision and sustainability by the government; enhanced criminal intelligence by the security agencies; cooperation; and intelligence sharing by the different intelligence agencies. Effective implementation of police reform policies; reducing the high turnover of the Inspector General of Police and establishing a legal procedure to elongate or fix tenure of say five years for them would do the trick. Enhance border patrol and regulations of the influx of immigrants or aliens. Put in place good policies to promote effective and efficient leadership, good governance transparency and a mechanism to check, prevent and totally eliminate corruption. Put in place effective mechanism for conflict mediation and resolution and also an alternative dispute resolution. Enhance the citizen security agencies relationship towards maintenance of internal security and stability. OCCUPY THE GOVERNORS President Goodluck erroneously taught that Nigerians are still the same people of Obasanjo era. He looks for trouble in terms of subsidy removal and the people gave him double. Many people are saying that the federal government won the battle, but I beg to disagree with reasons. . Here are results of that struggle: First House of Representatives were forced to commence public hearing on subsidy regime. President Jonathan floats mass transit to assuage the feeling of the people. Activities of our public office holders are now under close scrutiny. Christians and Muslims are now more united against corrupt elites hiding under the cover of divide and rule to reign supreme. Most importantly, our state governors are now scared stiff as to what might happen next. This is why I think that we should start investigating the treasury of each state starting from Kogi, my state. Civil Society groups, NGO’s Media men and women should be part of that struggle. Any state found to have embezzled people’s money should be occupied until such governors resign from office. From there we move to local government chairmen. I tell you, if this my suggestion is taken serious, Nigeria will be a better place before 2015 general elections.
