With just 78 days until the London 2012 Games begin and under sunny skies, the Olympic flame has been lit in Ancient Olympia during a ceremony organized by the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The flame was created using the sun's rays and a parabolic mirror by the high Priestess -- Ino Menegaki -- at the Temple of Hera. It was then carried into the Ancient Olympic Stadium in a choreographed procession before being used to light the torch of the first torchbearer - British-born Greek open water swimming world champion and three-time Olympian Spyros Gianniotis. The flame will now be taken on an eight-day relay around Greece before being handed over to the London 2012 Organising Committee during a ceremony in Athens at the Panathenaic stadium, ahead of it being taken back to Great Britain, where the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay -- presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung -- gets underway on 19 May.

www.bbc.co.uk This is the launch trail for the BBC's Olympic Torch Relay campaign. Using animation, the creative idea is based on the design of the torch itself and the 8000 holes in the design that represent the 8000 torch bearers. The trail opens on the DNA of the Olympic Flame and then pulls out to reveal the beautiful golden Olympic Torch, created in graphical dots. These dots begin to make up forms and characters. We see animated runners holding the torch and people coming together in celebration. As it reaches the end of the trail it pulls out to reveal celebrations taking place across the United Kingdom. The Torch campaign will be the first time audiences will hear the specially commissioned Elbow track "First Steps" that the BBC are using for its theme tune for the Olympics. The version used on the Torch campaign is a taster for the full track which will be launched for the Games times marketing campaign and Olympic title sequences.

Theodore Winter: It did NOT feel like a three day weekend. Kim & I drove up to Seattle Friday for a wedding. Kim's mom & dad came up on the train, and we had a lovely dinner with them at Shuckers (a seafood place in the Fairmount Olympic, quite posh). Saturday morning we sojourned to a Byzantine Catholic church (with a cedar onion dome) to celebrate the marriage of Becky (Kim's 2nd cousin) & Mark. The church was what I would expect to see in some mountain village in Greece: painted with bright colors, an image of EVERY saint you can think of, with assorted demon stick figures in black. The priests & cantor sang everything - Lord Have Mercy! It lasted just under two hours. It was fun to see Kim's family, and everyone had a great time at the reception. That night we met our friends Lael & Rick and Cathy & Phil (Ted went to school with Rick & Phil at the shipyard a LONG time ago) and drank wine and feasted on Capitol Hill. Having a good time is exhausting.
