The Oldest Living Thing on Earth? 500000-Year-Old Bacteria

Complete video at: fora.tv Photographer Rachel Sussman presents an image of what is most likely the oldest living thing on planet Earth: a specimen of actinobacteria, found in Siberian permafrost. The bacteria are about 500000 years old, and in danger of extinction due to climate change. ----- While we may aspire to live a century, Rachel Sussman documents creatures who don't bat an eye at a millennium or two. Her photography has captured 4500 year old bristlecone pines, 12000 year old yucca, 400000 year old Siberian bacteria, and many other wizened elders, all with stories longer than all of recorded human history. - The Long Now Foundation Rachel Sussman, b. 1975, grew up in Baltimore, punctuated by stints in Santa Fe and Nicoya, Costa Rica. She received her BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in 1998 and has been awarded artist's residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Cooper Union, and Vermont Studio Center. She is currently a member of the Macdowell Fellows Executive Committee and was named Evelyn Stefansson Nef Fellow in 2005. In 2007, she served as Thomas P. Johnson Distinguished Visiting Artist at Rollins College. Over the past 10 years Sussman has exhibited in the US and Europe. New York venues include the Museum of Natural History, Jen Bekman Gallery, Christie's, New Century Artists, Pierogi, Momenta, Artists Space, Cue Art Foundation and Galapagos Art Space. Her work has also been shown at the LA Design Center, University of Pennsylvania and Vox ...

Harmony H22 Bass Demo: World's Oldest Living Bass

Harmony H22 Bass Demo: World's Oldest Living Bass

Chris Laguna from Harmony Guitars is back with the company's sole Bass in from their Vintage series, the Harmony H22. This hollowbody bass's design is from an age when the electric bass wasn't actually supposed to be heard; Harmony knew they were going to have to improve some of the specs before it was played through the bass amps of today, so they gave the thing upgraded tuners. Otherwise, this axe is all-vintage spec, with a single, gold-foil pickup that goes great with flatwounds. To preserve its yesteryear-tone, Chris thumped the H22 through a Vox AC15. Yeah, that's why he's playing though a guitar amp . . . See more on Gearwire.com.

Queens is the best part of NY

Queens is the best part of NY

Being from Queens automatically qualifies you as a member of the elite. The tallest tree in the New York metropolitan area, called the Queens Giant, is also the oldest living thing in the New York metro area. It is located in northeastern Queens, and is 450 years old and 132 feet (40 m) tall as of 2005. The borough is often considered one of the more suburban boroughs (in comparison to Manhattan standards) of New York City. Queens is the largest in area, the second-largest in population.

Hugh Prestwood's - Bristlecone Pine, sung by J. Salestrom

This song was posted before and had 515 views as of March 19th, 2010. I removed it and uploaded it once more in a better format to improve the quality of the video. The song was brought to my attention by my step-dad (Wayne) and I'd like to dedicate this slide show to him. I have been welcomed into their Colorado home for many years where I have had unlimited freedom in exploring the grandeur of the San Juan mountains of Colorado in and around Lake City. While I've not heard Salestrom sing in person, it's my understanding that he still performs in various parts of Colorado like the Broadmoor Hotel/resort in Colorado Springs. I like Salestrom's version the best of those I've heard online.

Perhaps the worlds largest (or at least broadest) tree in the world. Some say its the largest living thing in general. Estimated to be over 2000 years old, this cypress tree lives in the town of Santa Maria del Tule near Oaxaca de Juarez in Mexico. It looks pretty healthy.
