Undercover Boss questions & answers
“Undercover Boss” is a television program that a boss becomes an employee for a certain period of time to work as other employees and experience what others feel like to be an employee. Dave Rife, the White Castle owner, participates in “Undercover Boss” and meets valuable employees who are going to be the future of this fast-food chain and country. At first, Rife makes countable mistakes by not putting hamburger buns into the vinyl wrapper properly, which greatly worries his “employer.” Also, Rife does not know how to place a piece of cheese on buns on time; however, his supervisor disregards this incidence. Rife then hears a testimony that co-workers are anxious if they get laid off since their jobs are not permanent. He cannot experience other workers’ hardship when he is the owner of this company. Nevertheless, Rife meets friendly workers who advise him how to work with their know-how. Then, Rife recognizes there are talented employees who pursue different dreams. One young man who cooks beefs goes to cooking college and wishes to be a chef. He instructs Rife how to cook on time. Also, one man who takes a “drive-thru” order teaches Rife how to friendly greet customers. This man is the only person in his family who earns money to support his son who cannot see. From this experience, Rife realizes many employees live under pressure and support them by giving $5000 worth scholarship. $5000 does not mean how much money it is; however, it means Rife actually cares his employees to these employees. “Undercover Boss” is an excellent program because it shows how other employees work day-to-day basis as a perspective of other employees.

Would this case be worth taking to HR?
So I've been working for Hooters for almost a year and a half and I've never had a problem until just recently. Today one of my (male) managers came up to me on the floor and grabbed my pouch (which hangs from our waist) to see if I had my phone on me because I guess one of the other girls did. I never carry my phone on me, so I was a little offended that he thought it was alright to do that. We ended up being really slow and at one point I had no tables so I went inside to the lockers, where my bag was, to message one of my friends and tell them to come in. Well, this same manager saw me and said "oh so this is where you use your phone, I'm taking it". I told him he wasn't taking it and I put it back in my bag. He reached across me, and into my bag to take my phone. Now before anyone tries to say that I'm whining about getting my phone taken away, I just want to make it clear that I couldn't have cared less that he took my phone. I'm offended at the way he handled both situations. If he wanted to see if I had my phone in my pouch, he could have asked, and I would have showed him. Same thing goes for when he grabbed it out of my bag. He didn't ask to have my phone, he told me he was taking it. Now I'm sorry, I'm not in middle school anymore. I'm an adult and I deserve that same respect that I give him in return. This just reminds me of the undercover boss episode. If had a daughter and this situation occurred with her, I'd be furious! And to make matters worse, our GM came in a little later after all this happened and I guess the other manager told him what happened, and out of nowhere the GM makes a rude comment about me having my phone, in front of guests at the restaurant and other coworkers! To be honest I'm not really surprised because he tried to call me out one other time in front of everyone. I'm just really insulted that the managers at this store have so little respect sometimes, and I feel like I can't talk to them about it because I'm always wrong in their eyes. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this situation? Is it worth making a call to HR about? Let me add that I did not have my phone on me. It was in my purse which was in a locker. This is what he took it out of, when he took it without my permission. The only thing that I did wrong was use my phone without asking a manager. My boss however grabbed my pouch (which is right in front of my privates!) and reached into my purse without my consent. And then the GM proceeded to bring the issue up in front of the entire restaurant instead of talking to me in private.
Answer: When your manager took the phone without your permission, he committed a theft. Just because you are at work, he does not have the right to take your personal property. I would definitely file a complaint with your HR department, and also consider filing theft charges against the manager who stole your phone from your bag. This is not acceptable behavior, and the manager who is doing such things should be at the very least disciplined
Undercover Boss: How long can they expect this show to last before "Hey is this Undercover boss?"?
A rare example of a show being ruined because it is a hit. I mean a person comes into a business with a film crew and a cover story. This show isn't a secret. x number of employees + x number of customers. People will know quickly and the information the bosses seek will be compromised by workers putting their best feet forward, hiding the reality. No the cameras aren't hidden, though they might have to be if the show is to continue. Only saw a few episodes but always starts with a cover story: "this film crew is here to film something on entry level positions etc..."
Answer: well they better of done something different because they wil be very suspecting when the camera crews show up and it is very interesting how they pick the stores and people to intervene with

What do you think of the television show "Undercover Boss"?
I like it. I know someone who was asked once upon a time to be in a similar position. It was a fascinating experience I'm sure. Too bad it can't go on a resume if they want to go back into retail or fast food instead of criminal recovery or whatnot....
Answer: its intressting :-)

Trying to identify an old comedy movie, maybe Don Knotts?
Probably late 60/early 70s. Knotts (or a similar character) is a bookkeeper or something mixed up with mobsters. One character is a little old lady who is tutoring the mob boss; she turns out to be undercover FBI, and uses his English essays as evidence against him. Part of that bit is he is learning a new word every day, when she arrests him, she says that his new word for the day is 'incarceration'! About the only other bit I remember is toward the end, the Knotts-character thinks the boss has come to kill him, instead the boss elaborately spreads a handerchief on the floor, kneels down on it and apologizes (for what I dunno....), much to Knotts' surprise. So....any idea what movie this is??? Was that Figg? I saw that in the Knotts filmography but it didn't seem to quite fit. Thanks, I'll have to check that out again!

...... Undercover Boss ?
Paul Fisher Boss of the Jockey Club, came across as a really nice guy, But i think the people he worked with must of known who he was ......what do you think?
Answer: Just watched the programme on catch up Channel 4 and yes I think the word might have been out that the Boss was going to be around, at least one or two who attended that briefing at Jockey Club HQ would have let the cat out of the bag I'm sure. They definitely knew who he was at Cheltenham when he was checking entrance tickets on the gate he was recognised and had to take the chap off for a quiet word regarding his ID. I was really impressed by Paul Fisher and felt that he threw himself into every job at each racecourse that he visited and by talking and listening to the workers was able to come up with some innovative ideas for the future. I can see John McCririck jumping on his high horse on the Morning Line on Saturday backing all Paul Fishers decisions and especially calling for a change in the law whereas a man who has worked at the racecourse all his life looking after the grounds should, as in the case of Mr. Wooton, be allowed to keep his family home and not be turfed out upon retirement. I thought that was a very emotional moment for all concerned especially as they are going to name the new hurdles course at Carlisle after him...magic :) All in all an interesting insight into the staff that make our day at the races more enjoyable and long may Paul Fisher reign in his position as Boss of the Jockey Club. Any idea where I can get hold of a couple of those Jockey Club badges that gives free entrance to all UK racecourses on any given day...perhaps I'll try Ebay..lolx ;) Daveuk..here's the link to the programme if you missed it:- http://www.channel4.com/programmes/undercover-boss/4od#3107769 You may have to register with Channel 4 first but it just takes a minute.
