July 30th / 31st Holy Cross / Buena VistaIm posting this meetup since Jason is going. I might be going just not sure yet. If the group has interest in going, will then post drections and other info on the area. Jason explains the event below; Thought you might be interested in this, or whoever wants to tag along, I got invited to a Toyota group trail run that would last 2 days, July 30th, and the 31st, fri, and saturday, I did this 2 years ago, it was a good time, Holy Cross is a decent trail, with some nice views, and a really cool old mining town, there is a nice creek part of the trail too called french creek, They do Holy Cross on Friday, then Carnage Canyon on Saturday in Buena Vista, Holy Cross is in Eagle County, 2 years ago I didnt do Carnage Canyon, it is rated pretty tough, but if someone didnt feel like running that, there is Chinamans gulch right next to it, which is much milder, yet somewhat challenging. The group is not "Toyota" only, and pretty good bunch of people... Just a thought... I will be going, so if anybody else wants to go give me your thoughts, I will find a link to the event to post..

Toyota Parts questions & answers
I have a 2001 Toyota Solara SLE which needs a replacement master cylinder and have been quoted $120 in labor, $32 for the fluid flush and $226.29 for the part and (??? not sure if this covers anything else). The last chunk seems a bit high, any insight?
Answer: i agree. while we don't know what motor you have or if you have traction control or abs. i don't think, for comparison's sake, it matters. the most expensive one at rockauto, com is 152.00 o'reillyauto.com 151.00 both sites show 'em starting around 55.00. but w/o abs or traction control. now if they are buying a toyota part, i can see the 226.** after mark up. if it's a toyota part it WILL have "AISIN" stamped on it. i have never touched a solara, but i own a tercel and a toy pu (they will be different), but judging by the looks of the part, i wouldn't think it would take more than 45 minutes to r&r. minimum 1 shop hour for the R&R. bleed time can push it passed that if there are issues. but "power bleeing" usually side steps most bleeding issues. assuming thats why the flush charge is high as well. just for installation, not bleed, i have not met a master yet that took me over an hour. even with issues on installing. again, never touched a solara. depending on where you go, shops charge 60 - 80 USD an hour +-. a lot of +-. so 120.00 in labor for say, two shop hours isn't bad. thats prolly a guesstimate. can't comment on the flush charge, but seems 'bout right. -------------------------- FYI; you know you have the right, if you declare it, to have all replaced/defective parts given to you at the end of the job. this protects the consumer. ensuring that they actually replaced the part, and that you may be able to determine it's condition. faulty or not.
I am 19 years old, have no family support, and I cant afford insurance on my own?
I just moved to MN with my girlfriend from Oklahoma, and she doesn't drive. So no, I cannot get under her insurance, or her parents..etc. The cops here in Grand Rapids are very VERY strict and do not give anyone second chances for any reason. My family back at home, which is my mom, grandma and grandpa, cannot help me. My mom quit her job so she has no income, my grandma and grandpa are retired and cant afford anything really, and my dad isn't in my life....so I have a 1995 toyota camry that i paid full cash for, and insurance will run me close to 300 a month WITH a downpayment of 300-350. I don't have any tickets at all, been driving since February of 2008. What can I do? My job only pays $8.00 an hour and I will be going to college in August. So on top of that, I'm gonna need to pay for an apartment, phone bill, all with working Part Time with my job...Please help. This is stressing me out. Thank you!

If the greatest teacher is failure why are we bailing anybody out?
I mean seriously. Should we bail people out. GM goes out of business. Millions lose their jobs, temporarily. Maybe they realise that they shouldn't be working for giant companies with corrupt bosses and Unions that strangle any hope of salvage. Corrupt bosses realise that they shouldn't be corrupt, or that such large businesses are foolish. Somebody buys the factories and the names of the GM products, possibly producing all brands equally or each of the brands gets bought out by different companies. Many of the old employees will be optimal for rehire, if not already working for Ford, Chrysler, or Toyota, because of their experience. Failure is a part of life. We can't save people from it. It only makes things worse, because they will always expect it from then on. It's survival of the fittest, the law of the jungle, life. Phyllis, if you are my neighbor or in my congregation/community and you lose your job, I will certainly extend my hand in fellowship to help you get a job again or help you out until you can do so if I have the means. However, I am not going to pay for your company to go out of business. That would be idiotic and well really, just delaying the inevitable and wasting my money. Grasshopper, that is a bunch of bull! ;) And I agree one hundred percent. yes, it is evolution. And evolution is a part of nature whether God created or not.
Answer: Failure is a great teacher but only if you learn from your failures to avoid making the same mistakes again. If you don't then you are either incompetent, stupid or a sucker for punishment or all three! If you're not a self leader and are guided by your own honest wide scope integrations with reality then you have a ring in your nose that is tied to a rope that someone else is in control of and is pulling you in the direction they want you to go. Once you learn to obey their commands the rope is given some slack because your masters know you will automatically do what you have been trained to do without question! Unless you are willing to think for yourself to discover who you really are, why you are living the way you live and what you can do to change your direction, you will remain trapped in a world you hate and despise, unfulfilled, unhappy, broke, spiritually drained and literally another mans slave.
Why Can't I Get a Car Loan?
First to whomever reads this it is a bit lengthy but i'm extremely baffled. I am a 25 year old part time college student living at home and i'm currently employed as a server. 8% of my sales are automatically declared on my checks as part of a deal with the IRS(8% sales or credit card tips whichever is higher). I have a 748 credit score with no debt and no bills/loans on my credit report. I have almost 3 years of credit history with 3 active credit cards totaling $7,100. I have never made a late payment, i'm always early actually. Also I am a first time car buyer. My current check-stubs show $1,471.16/month. I also have my W2's from the last two years which show just under $1800/month on the eldest and $1970/month last years. I have all my paychecks from the past 3 years and after comparison they are all pretty much the same(meaning the paychecks are nearly identical based on the previous pay dates - My first check in July was like a clone of last years July check etc). I have now tried five times to get an auto-loan with zero luck. I do not have a co-signer by the way. The denial I just received this morning has me completely baffled. It is my actual bank and I requested a loan for $24,000 previously for a Toyota Tacoma. Note: My credit score was only 739 that time and I didn't offer to put anything down. I was approved for $10,000 without a co-signer and $17,000 with one. Knowing that getting anything in the over $20,000 range won't happen until I get a different job, I opted for a Kia Soul. I found a brand new one for $14,000 that already had tags. This time my credit score was 748, same deal no debt or dings, I offered to put $1,200 down, and I was approved for $12,000 with a "really good co-signer". I am so lost it's crazy, my head just hurts trying to figure this out. Am I supposed to buy a cheap, busted up vehicle and make a terrible investment in order to get a loan for a good investment? By the time I pay for the inevitable repairs on a vehicle with 60k+ miles the amount invested would probably equal what I was asking for in the first place. I feel like i'm being punished for doing what is asked of by the credit industry. Annoying note - My boss shows $2,200/month and just bought a Truck for $17,000, but the kicker is the place couldn't find his credit. It wouldn't appear in their system but they just gave it to him anyways. So there is my wall of text, can anyone offer me any advice or anything, seriously anything at all? I have 98% of my total credit free. I only use one of the 3 cards and it is for daily expenses only. MadMan - I am a waiter, what shows up on my checks is not what I make. My checks show $1400 when in reality I make $2000-$2500/month($1800 is a very bad month). So asking for a loan that would require a payment $234/month is not over doing it. Reena I stated multiple times that I pay off everything monthly. Out of a potential $7100 debt I carry only 2%-4% depending on the time of the month. Thank you for the responses so far.
Answer: You have a lot of numbers here, but not all of them. What is the debt to income ratio? That is, how much do you take in and how much goes out every month right now? If the ratio is really high, many lenders will not consider the loan solvent because of your perceived inability to repay. Another number missing is the time between the two loan requests. Remember that the lending arenas are shrinking, and credit is becoming harder to come by. If both of your applications were done at the same bank, that could be the reason for the reduction in available credit. If they were done at different banks then you have your answer, different banks, different policies. You say you have 3 years of good history and a high score. Ok that's good. But even the most qualified people are having difficulty borrowing now. Don't be discouraged, but don't shop your loan around to every lender either. A blitz of inquiries like this a grouped together so they will not hurt your score that much, but it does not look that good either. I hope you find a lender that will work with you, but if you do not, remember that it is not entirely tied to your ability to borrow, but also to the bank's ability to lend. Many credit unions and smaller banks have not tightened their portfolios as much, check with them and you may be happily surprised by what you find
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE AVERAGE PRICE OF A FENDER FOR A 2005 TOYOTA AVALON?
I HIT A FIRE HYDRANT AND TMR I WILL GO GET AN ESTIMATE. IT LOOKS THE THE FENDER IS OUT OF LINE A LITTLE. THE REQL DAMAGE IS BY THE TIRE. THE BOTTOM PIECE, I THINK LIKE THE TRIM IS PUSHED UPWARD. IM SO PIST. THE METAL PART OF THE FIRE HYDRANT PUSHED IT OUT. PARKED TO CLOSE. LIVE IN JERSEY AND HARD TO PARK SUM TIMES. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS AN AVERAGE PRICE SO I KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT TMR. I HOPE IM DESCRIBING THIS RIGHT. THE RIM GOT ALL SCRATCHED UP, AND THE BOTTM FENDER IS PULLED OUT. THANX!
Answer: Please don't write with caps lock, it's very hard to read. Anyway, you will have to visit a reputable body shop for that to get your estimate; there might be more damage hidden by the sheet metal. Many body shops provide free estimates, so I would start with some research.
1987 Toyota Tercel Strange Malfunctioning?
I have a 1987 Toyota Tercel two-door sedan, 1.5. It is an automatic. It has been extensively tuned up by my father. It has a new radiator and almost all the basic parts are new. However, I've been having problems with it. This is what happens: the car starts right up idling high or perfect, I drive to the store or on an errand, I turn the vehicle off, I go inside for 15 minutes to an hour, I come up start the car up and the idle is extremely low to the point of stalling and I have to ride the break and the gas to get it home. However, if I am inside a store for around two hours, I come out and the car runs perfectly. What could be causing this strange behavior? The car has an engine fan that you have to manually switch on from the inside of the car. This malfunctioning seems to be worse when it is very hot outside. I just can't explain how the idle changes so frequently, righting itself after being so low. It has two extremes: deathly low and so high that the car does pre-ignition upon shutting it off. however, there are some times when it is perfect. Could the idle screw be backing itself out? We've tried most everything to fix it. ANY help would be appreciated! I do not know anyone who is really familiar with Toyota vehicles. My dad and I think that it can't be anything too serious because most everything is new under the hood. I really hope it is fixable because this is my first car. I am 19 and just got my drivers license, I bought this car with my own money. It is in EXCELLENT shape and this situation baffles me to no end. Please help! Thank you!
Answer: If your car has a carburetor (I don't know, I'm no Toyota fan), it sounds like the float is leaking or out of adjustment. Judging by the age, I'd say it's leaking. This allows the engine to flood after you shut it off. If you come back too soon, the engine is still flooded. If you come back hours later, some of the gas has evaporated and you're able to start the car. I had the same problem with my old Buick.

How to get best fair settlement from car insurance company for 1996 corolla?
Hi: My 1996 toyota corolla was hit by another car in the rear on the passenger side. My car was in excellent condition, everything worked, nothing broken, no rust (paint in excellent condition as it is always in my garage at home or in a covered parking lot at my workplace), low mileage (130K), never had a problem and I am the original, sole owner and driver of the car. I was planning to keep driving it for years to come. Now the insurance company wants to total my car and what they are offering for my car /their initial proposed settlement of $3500is not nearly enough to buy another car in the same excellent, safe and reliable condition, that is not riddled with hidden problems. This presents a big problem for me as, if I cannot have my car fixed and restored to the same condition as before the crash, I would have to come up with at least $12K to $15K to buy another new safe, reliable economy car. This is an expense that was not in my plans. Also, the insurance company is pushing me to make a hasty decision and is threatening me with not paying for the car rental I needed to get (since my car cannot be driven as the tail light is broken and and rain would get in the car). Is there any way that the insurance company can be prevented from totaling my car and instead pay for properly fixing the car with good OEM parts instead of used (LKQ) parts. I got several estimates, two for around $5K and one for around $7K (this one is from an excellent body shop that has done excellent work on my other previous cars before). The insurance company provided and estimate for $4k using used/LKQ parts. I would appreciate any advice on how to get the best settlement from the insurance company.

should i sue over this?
To make a long story short, I purchased a 2000 Toyota Solara last october and it was a lemon. I had to pay alot of money to get it fixed and i still have to get head gaskets done. I have invested alot of money into this car. I am looking to sue the dealership in civil court to get some of my money back. Im suing under Massachusetts 93a consumer law which states that if a dealer breaches a contract, or uses unfair and deceptive acts to sell cars, then you can seek relief for damages. Also, I think that i have to keep the car for another year if I want a successful outcome, but i still have to fix the head gaskets and i still owe 3,000 on the car note. but the dealership did brake ever part of the 93a law when they sold me the car. the car has 127,000 miles on it, and i already paid a lawyer to send out a 30 day demand letter to get the civil suit rolling. i have 4 and a half years to sue, but suing could take a long time, but you get all your money back and more. What should I do? please, only give good answers and not the a!@hole kind.
Answer: If you asked the dealer about the condition of the car, and they lied to you, then yes, you can successfully sue them. If you asked the dealer about the condition of the car, and there was a problem that they should have reasonably been expected to know and didn't, then you can successfully sue them. Otherwise, no. The fact is that it's an old car. It's not a lemon, because lemons are brand new cars that have lots of problems. This is a ten year old car, and you can't ever expect to have a problem-free car that is that old. If you can prove that they knew about the problems, or should have, then you can win your suit. Otherwise, it's not even worth trying.
