He possesses an extraordinary, guttural vocal talent and is often called the finest British blue-eyed soulman. Nicknamed ‘Superlungs’ he’s ventured out more recently in Los Angeles and London with shows that were a talking point for intimacy, showmanship and his interpretive vocal style. Every once in a while his friends and peers will drop by and pay their respects; Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Keith Richards, Roger Daltrey and Donovan have all looked Terry up to play when they were in town. Comparisons are often made with the vocal range and dexterity of Sam Cooke and Ben E King, though fans of Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams or even Gomez and newcomers Haven would easily connect with his sound and acknowledge his influence and Jack White’s The Raconteurs were the latest act to pay homage with their cover of Reid’s classic Rich Kid Blues.Coming out of the 1960's Terry Reid was on a roll he was a professional rock and roller with Peter Jay & the Jaywalkers at age 15, later pursuing his solo career and touring the UK, US and Europe extensively in the company of Cream, The Rolling Stones etc. and making time to recommend and introduce Robert Plant and John Bonham to Jimmy Page after declining a frontman role for the New Yardbirds.A catalogue of misfortunes stood between Reid and the commercial success he surely deserved. As a breaking live act with a burgeoning fanbase he signed a management deal with the legendary ‘hitmaker’ Mickie Most. The pair fell out badly over choice of material and direction and Terry was tied in legal knots for years to come. He has recently regained control of many his songs from the 1960’s.Every major label attempted to sign Terry Reid but it took Ahmet Ertegun and Atlantic Records to chisel a deal that would eventually release him from an enforced lay-off. During the interim period he moved to the US and paid the rent by performing back-up vocals on albums for Jackson Browne and countless others though he continued to write and occassionally perform, including a still-talked-about-by-those-who-saw-it appearance at Glastonbury Fayre in 1971 and Mick & Bianca’s wedding in St.Tropez. His comeback heralded a new sound, with R’n’B & Latin influences and this 1973 album ‘River’ together with it’s successor the Graham Nash produced ‘Seed of Memory’ are regarded as the ‘signature’ albums in Terry’s output. He's recorded 6 studio albums, the last official release being ‘the Driver” in 1991. His first two albums were re-packaged by EMI as ‘Super Lungs: The Complete Studio Recordings 1966-69’ also comprising a dozen unreleased tracks and demos. You can hear him diving through his jazz, folk and rock influences. This compilation provides some insight, perhaps, into the creative and commercial disputes that swirled around his head as a young artiste. There are two live albums also available; Silver White Light from the Isle Of Wight Festival in 1970, this recording was available for many years as a bootleg before it’s belated release. The other live offering is ‘Terry Reid - Alive’ .Terry Reid is the musician’s musician with “ the voice” that has lost none of its power, still singing, still playing, still writing songs. In recent years his songs have featured in the soundtracks of independent films, ‘the Criminal’, ‘Wonderland’ etc.

Rock & Pop, What rock musician/singer do you think had a very..different sense of style?
I'm talking about clothes, hair, and in some cases - makeup. Who do you think always had a crazy/unique/original sense of style? I know music isn't about looks, this is just a "for fun" question I'll have to go with the obvious and say Bowie.. Roger Daltrey also had some funky outfits in his day. BQ: What's the best song to listen to on a sunny day? BESIDES HERE COMES THE SUN... :)
Answer: Jimmy Page and his little outfits, i've always liked his outfits, they where like the primary rock n roll outfits. BQ: Bad Moon Rising- Creedence Clearwater Revival, D'yer Ma'ker-Led Zeppelin (yes im a led zeppelin fan).
Roger Daltrey is brilliant, know what I mean?
I've heard (read) several people criticise him for copying both Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury in style and musically amongst others. Daltrey came before both. If he has any similarity to the two (pre-1969 anyway), then it's those two who have been influenced by him. For the record, I don't see any similarities between him and Mercury. Neither musically or visually and stylistically. Anyway, favourite Who songs? 5 if your too big a fan just to pick one.
Answer: I agree with you, and I love Roger Daltrey. One of my favorite vocalists of ALL time. And I AM too big of a Who fan to pick just one song :-) But here's my top 5: 1. Love, Reign O'er Me 2. Magic Bus 3. Slip Kid 4. The Real Me 5. I Can't Explain Good day! :-)

R&P: Let's decide -- What are the best songs of 2009 (Round 1 - Part 15)?
The First Annual Rock & Pop Best Song Competition (2009 Edition). Part 15 of the first round. More to come, and you don't have to have voted in previous parts to get started here. Guest Commentary by R&P's own David. MATCH UP 1 Phoenix - "Lisztomania" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BJDNw7o6so Though active since the late 1990s, French alternative band Phoenix did not become international superstars until 2009. This colorful, energetic single helped them achieve the feat. It shares its title with a 1975 musical starring Roger Daltrey as Hungarian composer Franz Liszt (and, of course, featuring Ringo Starr as the Pope). VERSUS Wilco - "Bull Black Nova" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pMJpLEXrT4 "Would you be interested in going to a Wilco concert with me?" "Definitely! I love Wilco" "So I guess we WILCO to the show together!" "...not anymore" Boisterous French synth pop not for you? Perhaps this sinister song from Chicago's enduring and influential Wilco is. Found on their well-received self-titled album, the song's lyrics are told from the perspective of a man who has murdered his significant other. MATCH UP 2 Kid Cudi - "Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)" [feat. MGMT and Ratatat] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xzU9Qqdqww Kanye West's quirky, stylish protégé collaborates with indie dance duos MGMT and Ratatat on this song from his debut album. Cudi has been praised by critics as representing "a promising new phase in the genre's evolution." (Entertainment Weekly) VERSUS Mos Def - "Life in Marvelous Times" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2ZrVS5yNdo The lead single from The Ecstatic, celebrated by critics and fans as a return to form for the hip hop icon and actor after the disappointing sales and poor reviews which befell his last album. The rousing song is a survey of his life and career and society at large. MATCH UP 3 Porcupine Tree - "I Drive the Hearse" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj2pWB2S_Jk The fourteenth and final part of a 55-minute song cycle by the English progressive metal band, the aim of which is to "humanize the detached media reportage" (Steven Wilson) of violent crimes and disasters. VERSUS Wavves - "So Bored" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF9Tu35-pBo Hailed as the catchiest cut from the lo-fi/noise pop/surf band's sophmore album. Lead singer Nathan Williams made headlines when he, high on ecstasy and Valium, fought his drummer and crudely insulted the crowd at the Barcelona Primavera Sound Festival. Their European tour was subsequently canceled. MATCH UP 4 Backstreet Boys - "Shattered" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI_DVkCysFA The penultimate song from the teen pop sensations-turned-adult contemporary stalwarts' most recent album, This Is Us. VERSUS Diddy & Dirty Money - "Love Come Down" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au7W8tbSFtU His own music has never seemed to be the entrepreneur and fashion designer's top priority. This single's failure to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 perhaps suggests he should try harder. MATCH UP 5 Three Days Grace - "Break" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4VCpTZye10 Blame Canada. The lead single from the Canadian band's third album. Bassist Brad Walst explained the song's theme is "breaking away from bad influences." In case you couldn't tell from the mega-earnest, angsty chorus. VERSUS Thousand Foot Krutch - "Fire It Up" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOJee120Po8 Blame Canada, again. Here's a mouthful: Canadian Christian nü-metal. This is the third single from their fifth album, Welcome to the Masquerade. As featured in the trailer for one of the year's worst films, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. You, the community here at Yahoo! Answers, nominated 350+ songs, your favorites of the year, to face-off in head-to-head battles, tournament style, to determine the best songs of this calendar year. I ask that you listen to all of the songs... don't vote on name alone. Listen to them, weigh them, and then choose with reason, which song is the better of the two in the given match ups. Star it, and try to get as many voters to this thing as you can. All comments are meant to be in good humor. If you have any trouble with any links, or any of them are broken -- let me know, and I'll fix them ASAP. Thanks. So, THE QUESTION: which songs do you subjectively prefer of each these match ups (even if it's only the lesser of two evils in your eyes)?
Answer: I liked Phoenix "Lisztomania" (I remember watching the movie with the same title starring the Who in the 80's) the most of that group songs you listed. As far as Phoenix, to me, the song "1901"is wrapped in a little tighter package and comes across better The noise/lo fi rock appeals to me so I liked the Wavvves song "Bored." On that album I actuallly liked "No Hope Kids" a little better. The Kid Cudi song I had never heard before and it was really interesting. I am not saying I am sold on the song as it is mostly not my style, but maybe I need to grow some musically to like it. The song featured some nice elements. I really liked the Brian May sounding guitar. Have a nice day!
Who Fanatics, How Do You Rate 'Endless Wire'?
I had such high hopes for this album and was really dissapointed when I first heard it. Daltrey just sounds so old and all the old dynamism and excitement was gone. but I've just listened to it this evening and I now love it. At the end of the day it's not a true Who album without Moon and especially without Entwistle. It's just Roger Daltrey singing Pete Townshend songs, what can be wrong with that? What do you think? Thanx! BQ: What's an album that took ages to grow on you?
Answer: I give it a 6 - not their best work but not total trash either. It's Not Enough - isn't bad - the guitar work is still good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq-vwO4LotI It took me awhile to like Pipers at The Gates Of Dawn - Pink Floyd
What are your top 10 favorite songs by the following bands?

Rock and Pop: The Hypothetical MQ Game yaaaay!?
I've asked a couple of these a while back, so I've decided to do it again cause most people found them kinda fun! Basically you give a song for the scenario--it doesnt always have to go by the title, it could go by the mood of the song, tempo, etc. Okay. What song would be playing when you... 1)..see Santa Claus raiding the kitchen for more cookies? 2)..notice that you're not wearing pants at a job interview? 3)..win a thumb war? 4)..finally finish writing a huge novel? 5)..realize you've walked off the top of a building (like they do in cartoons)? 6)..are in a bathtub filled with Heinz beans, with Roger Daltrey? 7)..turn into a giant stapler? I'll stop at lucky 7. BQ: Should I make questions like these more often? haha the stapler question was inspired by: http://www.youtube.co/watch?v=SYsUSBG0BN4 lmfao xD woops: * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYsUSBG0BN4
