Ken Russell's 1975 film version of The Who's rock opera, Tommy, is as crazed and over-the-top as they get. Bella Bacino's stuffed pizza is delicious, gooey and overflowing with cheese. They also have a full bar and outdoor seating. All we need is a fun group and that's where you come in. 5:30 pm - Meet at Bella Bacino's at 75 E. Wacker Dr. (near Michigan Ave.) 7:30 pm - Leave for The Gene Siskel Center (we should arrive a bit early in case its crowded) 8:15 pm - Tommy begins in Quintophonic sound (seriously!) Since I'll be making reservations and need an accurate head count, please, no maybes. Only RSVP if you really plan on showing. Also, check this page as Sept 3 approaches, because this will be cancelled if we have less than 5 attendees. "Exhilarating...One glorious excess after another." Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "Mad, funny, irreverent...explodes with excitement." Vincent Canby, The New York Times Never one for understatement, Xtreme auteur Ken Russell declared The Who's rock opera "the greatest work of art of the twentieth century" and then took it up several notches with his spectacular flights of Russelmania, including sky-high platform shoes, a tsunami of baked beans, and a syringe-fringed suit of armor. Who frontman Daltrey stars as the traumatized lad who survives various forms of abuse to become pinball champion and object of a worldwide cult. The too-cool cast includes Elton John as the Pinball Wizard, Tina Turner as the Acid Queen, Jack Nicholson as the psychiatrist, Keith Moon as Uncle Ernie, and Russell favorite Oliver Reed as Uncle Frank. To commemorate the film's 35th anniversary, TOMMY has been digitally restored by Sony Repertory to preserve its dazzling visuals and five-track "Quintophonic" soundtrack. 2K DCP video. (MR)

Roger Daltrey questions & answers
I like a small handful of songs from them, but have never been "wowed" by them, whereas a number of my contacts, such as David V and Darth absolutely love them. Anyhow, I got no bone with that, and maybe it really does come down to different strokes for different folks.... But I am really wondering what I am "missing"? (Honestly form my perspective... Mick is not much to write home about as a singer, and even when he was young, I don't get how he was supposed to be a sex symbol. And as musicians, I just don't hear anything that compares with what the lads in bands like Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin or the Who accomplished, amongst so many others.) Anyhow.. maybe the right selection of tunage will help me appreciate em more. And maybe not. IDK, I know that there are a lot of bands I love that others "just don't get either" so....... MQ2- Name me your 5 favorite Stones tracks.. links would be appreciated too if possible. MQ3- Best Stone's album? BQ Rank em in order of who you think is better? Vocals: Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Danny Kirwan? Guitar: Mick Taylor, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Peter Green? Bass: Bill Wyman, John MacVie, John Entwistle, John Paul Jones? Drums: Charlie Watts, Mick Fleetwood, Keith Moon, John Bonham? (and no am not using this as a rating to bash the Stones, as all had pretty differing styles)
Answer: in a historical context the stones were great because they were one of many bands in the early 60's that took american rhythm and blues and threw it back in the faces of kids that were listening to bobby vee, frankie avalon, and connie francis. that helped change the direction of popular music. i have to disagree with the notion that the rolling stones were somehow the bad boy alternative to the beatles. that image is as false and contrived as the squeaky clean image of the beatles or "the byrds, the american answer to the beatles". it was an image thrown out there to sell records. the alternative was the bands the stones and beatles were emulating. as for the music, i don't think you are missing anything. you must not "hear" or receive the vibration of the stones "right", or in a way that is pleasing to you. at least you are more honest than the person that loves the stones or any other band considered great because you are supposed to in order to be a true and real fan of music. ma2: alas, i can't post links right now, but: dead flowers i just want to see his face sister morphine walking the dog ruby tuesday ma3: out of the two i have i guess exile on main street ba: danny kirwan robert plant mick jagger roger daltry peter green mick taylor jimmy page pete townshend john paul jones john entwistle bill wyman john macvie keith moon mick fleetwood charlie watts john bonham
The Who VS Deep Purple?
Who do you prefer? BQ: Favorite song/album from The Who? BQ2: Favorite song/album from Deep Purple BQ3: Ian Gillan or Roger Daltrey?
Answer: Album - Who's Next Song - Won't Get Fooled Again Album - Machine Head Song - Lazy or Burn (Burn is not on Machine Head and not Ian Gillan on lead vox...it's a young David Coverdale who replaced Ian) Roger Daltrey is the epitome of The "rock singer" or "rock god" and Ian was no slouch either. But I go with The Who and Roger Daltrey on this one. I don't even have to think about it.
Anyone swing a Microphone around better than Roger Daltrey?
I saw an old concert of The Who this weekend and the way he flung that Mike around was scary! BQ - What other bad things have you seen done to a Microphone? YA! wanted to put this in the Tennis category. I guess it was because of the words "swing" and "Roger"? Edit: Deke, Yes I definitely do! but during a concert, Lol. Edit: Lucy Blue, As a matter of fact he has! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv7DLqerre4
Answer: Probably not. I wonder if he's ever hit anyone with it. Only thing I have worth mentioning involving a microphone is a guy who plays slide guitar with the stand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oZBMv16DWE haha...Trixie, I windmilled a golf club once at a driving range. I'm not a golfer, needless to say.
R&P: The Who vs. Led Zeppelin?
BAse your judgement not upon which is your favorite, but on these categories: Diversity; Whether their music showed a wide range of appeal. Musicianship; Keith Moon vs. John Bonham John Entwistle vs. JPJ Roger Daltrey vs. Robert Plant Pete Townshend vs. Jimmy Page Influence; Whether they influenced many bands that came after them And any thing else you think fits BQ: Did you know the name "Led Zeppelin" can be credited to Keith Moon And John Entwistle?
Answer: Diversity: The Who. easily. half of Zep's catalogue can be summed up with distortion blues riffs or acoustic folk songs Keith Entwistle Plant Page Influence: the Who. they were the Punk bands' choice of dinosaur rock band. Pioneered rock operas. Entwistle is the most influencial rock bassist BQ: yes i did
I've heard this one a lot: Led Zeppelin or The Who?
I'm a HUGE fan of both, but I can't pick. It all depends on what mood I'm in. Lately I've been in a Who mood, so if I HAD to choose right now, it would be The Who. Individual showdown: Roger Daltrey vs. Robert Plant Pete Townshend vs. Jimmy Page (wow, no contest there, I must say; Page IS my fav guitarist) but here are the harder ones: John Entwistle vs. John Paul Jones and Mooney (Keith Moon) vs. Bonzo (John Bonham)
Answer: Robert Plant Jimmy Page John Paul Jones John Bonham
Peter Frampton or Roger Daltrey?
Who's better and why?
Answer: Daltrey! 1.Frampton has only made one good album in his career, whereas Daltrey has made several good albums! 2.Live At Leeds owns Frampton Comes Alive 3.Roger is a better actor than Peter, heck look at the one movie Peter appeared in(Sgt.Pepper).it destroyed his career 4.It was said that when The Who did the whole Tommy album on stage that Roger didn't just sing the songs,Roger actually became Tommy during that time, now can Frampton say that?
If You Could Swap the Singers of Any 2 Bands, Who Would they Be?
example... Putting Roger Daltrey in Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant into the Who. BQ: How Do You Like Your Toast? BQ2: explain your Y!A name naw Karl. the wankwest would cool down xP
Answer: Idk. Joey Ramone and Johnny Rotten. BA: Alot!!! BA2: Is short for my name and Spain won the world cup so yeah... Greetings! Greetings! Greetings! I heard you love it when I say that so I'll just say it more to you!! ;) *evil laugh* Greetings! Greetings! Greetings! Greetings! .
