Peter Townshend questions & answers
I like a small handful of songs from them, but have never been "wowed" by them, whereas a number of my contacts, such as David V and Darth absolutely love them. Anyhow, I got no bone with that, and maybe it really does come down to different strokes for different folks.... But I am really wondering what I am "missing"? (Honestly form my perspective... Mick is not much to write home about as a singer, and even when he was young, I don't get how he was supposed to be a sex symbol. And as musicians, I just don't hear anything that compares with what the lads in bands like Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin or the Who accomplished, amongst so many others.) Anyhow.. maybe the right selection of tunage will help me appreciate em more. And maybe not. IDK, I know that there are a lot of bands I love that others "just don't get either" so....... MQ2- Name me your 5 favorite Stones tracks.. links would be appreciated too if possible. MQ3- Best Stone's album? BQ Rank em in order of who you think is better? Vocals: Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Danny Kirwan? Guitar: Mick Taylor, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Peter Green? Bass: Bill Wyman, John MacVie, John Entwistle, John Paul Jones? Drums: Charlie Watts, Mick Fleetwood, Keith Moon, John Bonham? (and no am not using this as a rating to bash the Stones, as all had pretty differing styles)
Answer: in a historical context the stones were great because they were one of many bands in the early 60's that took american rhythm and blues and threw it back in the faces of kids that were listening to bobby vee, frankie avalon, and connie francis. that helped change the direction of popular music. i have to disagree with the notion that the rolling stones were somehow the bad boy alternative to the beatles. that image is as false and contrived as the squeaky clean image of the beatles or "the byrds, the american answer to the beatles". it was an image thrown out there to sell records. the alternative was the bands the stones and beatles were emulating. as for the music, i don't think you are missing anything. you must not "hear" or receive the vibration of the stones "right", or in a way that is pleasing to you. at least you are more honest than the person that loves the stones or any other band considered great because you are supposed to in order to be a true and real fan of music. ma2: alas, i can't post links right now, but: dead flowers i just want to see his face sister morphine walking the dog ruby tuesday ma3: out of the two i have i guess exile on main street ba: danny kirwan robert plant mick jagger roger daltry peter green mick taylor jimmy page pete townshend john paul jones john entwistle bill wyman john macvie keith moon mick fleetwood charlie watts john bonham
Who-Ligans...funniest lyrics by Pete and The Who?
I really laugh at "I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth," "My name is Bill and I'm a Head Case" and "He-man drag, in a glittering ballroom, greatly outrageous in my high heeled shoes" Does Peter Townshend write the best lyrics or WHAT? BQ: Best Who lyrics that aren't funny? As usual, I want to give all my who-ligans BA
Answer: Funniest lyrics would have to be Squeeze Box! It kind of broke the serious mood that permeated Who By Numbers, you know Pete's whole:"I'm 30,still alive and pissed about it"mood BQ:The most unfunny Who lyrics would have to be from In A Hand Or A Face,in fact it was one of the opening lines of the song:"Ain't it funny how they all fire the pistol,at the wrong end of the race!" that led some reviewers to think that Who By Numbers was basically a suicide note. Also there was Entwhisle's Heaven and Hell, which was a cautionary tale that warned of the pitfalls of living a decadent lifestyle, pity Entwhistle or Moon learned nothing from that song. There is also the Hope I die before I get old line from My Generation,Pete wrote it,Roger sang it,Keith lived it! edit-The interesting thing with Substitute is that the music kind of belies the seriousness of the lyrics. When you hear the music you think:"Cute, bouncy, and infectious pop tune!",but the lyrics make you realize that Substitute is anything but a cute, bouncy, and infectous pop tune!
Would you rather listen too? {D-D-Day SIX}?

Which man did Princess Margaret want Pete Townshend or Peter Townsend? Which is which please?
Also where does John Bindon come into all the confusion please?
Answer: Wonderful Princess Margaret was the original COUGAR...and had the nerve to be one long before it was fashionable! She probably would have spent some time with the rock star had he invited her to do so...as, in those days, English rock stars were rich as anything and led exciting lives. The fact that Peter Townshend, the rock star, was younger...wouldn't have bothered Margaret at all. Peter Townsend was her first love....and an attache to her family. Margaret was beautiful, bright and fun....he found her irresistable although he was married. There was no way for her to marry him and stay on good terms with her family. The Duke & Duchess of Windsor were still alive then, and, had the Royal Family allowed Margaret to marry a divorced Townsend and not be ostracized....a good case could have been made that the ex-King and his Duchess should be restored to good relations with the family. John Bindon came much, much later....and was just a passing fancy for dear Margaret. After all, the girl was entitled to SOME entertainment! Be glad you are not royalty...as a commoner, you can hook up with whoever you want and not have it splashed across every tabloid and TV screen in the world!
Do you remember these guy's or do you know anything about them?
The Shadows......from the 1950's to the 2000's. here are few lines from Wikipedia: The Shadows are Britain's most successful instrumental and vocal group with a total of 69 UK hit charted singles: 35 as 'The Shadows' plus 34 as 'Cliff Richard and The Shadows', from the 1950s to the 2000s. The Shadows are the 3rd most successful UK charted hit-singles act, behind Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard. The Shadows were the original pioneers of the four-member rock-group format (consisting of 2 guitars, bass and drums) in the UK. With their lead singer, Cliff Richard, The Shadows totally dominated the British popular music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s (ie the 5 year "Before-Beatles" period: 1958-1962), before The Beatles' first year in the charts in 1963. John Lennon once claimed that "before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music." As the first backing band to emerge as stars in their own right, they were early trailblazers for the beat-group boom that eclipsed them. the band had hits worldwide and had a significant impact on many British guitarists before the Beatles (inspiring the likes of: Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Mark Knopfler, Mike Oldfield, Peter Green, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Andy Summers, Brian May, Peter Frampton, Lemmy Kilmister and other notable British rock/pop musicians such as: Roger Taylor, Phil Collins, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Elton John). so why do they not get mentioned here that often . For anyone who likes or listens to The Who?
Am i the only one who thinks Roger Daltrey isnt as good as the rest of the band Keith Moon, Peter Townshend & John Entwhistle are all amazing at what they do.. But i never really got into Roger Daltrey Is this just me or do others agree?
Answer: I don't agree. Daltrey, when on his game and in his prime, was a terrific vocalist and engaging stage presence. I will admit this, though; I often feel as if Pete Townshend was the true frontman of The Who. The heart and soul of The Who.
