Wolgemut 8:00pm $10.00 What do you call a group of men playing loud tunes that no one but an early music enthusiast might know, on instruments that are unrecognizable, dressed in outlandish costumes worn by German mercenaries in the 16th century? Wolgemut! These guys prove that the 16th century rocked. Bagpipes, Rauschpfeif and enormous drums add up to a sound that resembles modern rock-and-roll far more than sedate Renaissance measures. Wolgemut is an ancient German word that means simply to be in a good mood. And to listen to Michael Gartner, artistic director of the band of musicians/miscreants, it's the band's mission as well as its name. "I call it 'historically inspired entertainment,'" says Gartner. "It's music that derives its energy and meaning from the past, but that builds on the universal human impulse to enjoy life." Wolgemut originated during Gartner's 12-year sojourn in Germany and Sweden, touring throughout Europe with its unique forms of ancient music and informed by Gartner's studies at the University of Leipzig Wolgemut has performed at international music festivals and concert halls throughout the United States and Europe. Instruments played by members of Wolgemut are historically accurate early music instruments. Gartner continues, "But I challenge anyone to say that this music is irrelevant or boring. This music makes people jump and dance and sing and laugh. It gives us great pleasure to get people to react in ways that we know must be the same way as our ancestors did. It's universal and joyful and meaningful." Wolgemut draws on a large number of musical sources. Its members play a number of the Cantigas de Santa Maria, songs that originated in the court of King Alfonso X of Galicia. "These were secular songs that celebrate the Virgin Mary, and some are downright sexy," noted Gartner. Wolgemut's particular take on the cantigas is an energetic and muscular interpretation that transforms these songs into danceable tunes that force a rethinking of early music. Other music includes dance music from French, Italian and English manuscripts, German and Swedish folk tunes, traditional music from Eastern European countries and original tunes including the ever-popular "Polar Bear Dance." Wolgemut's 2010 line up includes Gartner on wind instruments, Daniel Williams, percussionist and Chris Klecka, bagpiper and recorder player. The band features two distinctly different sounds, one incorporating the high-energy bagpipes, and the other featuring Gartner's virtuoso talents on the vielle, or ancient fiddle. "Depending on the venue and the audience, we can deliver high-volume crowd-pleasers or intimate music experiences," notes Gartner. "I just want people to get the notion that our ancestors loved a good time just like we do," notes Gartner. "This music, this experience, is about love, life and happiness. That's what it's always been about." Wolgemut's most recent CD, "Momento," featuring music from historical as well as traditional sources, exploring the concept of "Historic World Music". Medieval cantigas, French dances, and Swedish folk music are presented using the unique musical style that fans of Wolgemut have come to know and love. Other CDs include "Schauspeluden", "Schauspeluden II," "Danza" and "Tempus Saltandi."

The small house she shared there with her parents, three sisters, and a brother lacked many modern conveniences. But the children were raised on the Bible, strong discipline, and a lot of love. These principles forged a strong drive in her that she carried into her adult life. However, the simple country life Loreane knew and loved did not prepare her for the changes she would face while raising her own three children, Londria, LaDainian, and LaVar. Especially when LaDainians love of football catapulted him into the position of superstar running back of the San Diego Chargers, taking her with him every step of the way. Never in her wildest dreams did she expect to be on television programs like 60 Minutes, or to be making commercials for the likes of Campbells soup and Visio, or to be giving countless interviews to radio stations and publications like Sports Illustrated. Loreane currently lives in San Diego, California, is an ordained minister, dabbles in real estate, speaks on being a Champion to schools and organizations, and is the founder of San Deigos Business Womens Magazine with a readership of almost 100,000 businesses and industries. She is an author, an encourager, a tremendous networker, and has helped numerous businesses reach their audience. What People Are Saying... I can hardly wait to connect with everyone there! This is HUGE!!! Yeah!!!" Chris Sylvada"Manna you did it again! Cudos to you!!! The timing and the purpose of this event is PERFECT!!! The purpose resonates with what we are ALL feeling and thinking but dont know where to begin or how to bring this into action. Everyone I talk to lights up as soon as I mention this concept and we are all making our plans to BE there!!! We wouldnt miss this for the world!" Hal Jordan"The power of a like-minded group of people should never be underestimated. I cant wait to reconnect with so many friends at this event and to meet new ones! Manna you are a great inspiration and a wonderful visionary who always comes through! Ive talked with a lot of people about it already and we will be there! Our families, businesses and communities need this! We need to tell the truth about what really matters, and then do something about it! As business owners, we can totally grab onto this vision and we are eager to learn more!" Liz Norden"I saw you speak over 15 years ago and you moved everyone in the room then to tears, and to action. Glad some things never change! You have always been a great inspiration and mentor. The Big Event is going to be the BEST ever because it comes from the heart of service that meets the critical mass of change. This needs to happen not just in our businesses, but in our communities and world. Theres a saying - Go BIG, or go home. With you, theres no other option, but to go BIG and were right there with you! Lets do it!!!" Steve and Madeline Krawse"The Big Event is so timely and truly is a message we all need to hear and act upon. You have always been a BIG thinker! Your vision and commitment to see this through couldnt have come at a better time. So looking forward to seeing you and so many great friends soon!" Richard and Carolyn Clarke"The world has become too complicated. Getting back to the simplicity and brilliance of fundamental principles takes courage and resolve. My vision has always been - and will always be, to create healthy communities that support, encourage and empower each other. A house divided cannot stand. We need to come together and speak truth and life into each others lives. The silo mentality doesnt work never has. We need to put more faith in the promises of the future, than in the fear and deception of antiquated marketing ideas. Its time for us to rally and to build a united front that takes territory back and to live in victory." Modern day rock romance songs on acoustic?
Hi i am looking for some good romance songs by bands like red, skillet, slipknot(yes they have some acoustic songs), and other modern day genres like that. I do not want the songs to be like vermillion pt 2 or snuff talking about break ups or bad things i want them to talk about being in love. If you know any modern day love songs that aren't all hic sounding please post, thanks =D
Answer: You might want to Give Ozzy's new CD SCREAM a listen for his traditional diversion to easy listening romance songs...well at least one. Also, Slash put together a collection of rock songs some with a downright romantic appeal. Finally Orianthi can play a hell of a rock guitar and has sweet romance sounds on either of her CD's.

Brighter than the sunshine by aqualung. Love that song! and the lyrics are great. Not to be cheesy, but I have to throw in Accidentally in love. Great rock love song! Stolen by dashboard confessionals is a real nice and slow rock song. Here in your arms by hellogoodbye is such a good dancing song. Better together by jack johnson is a great relaxing song. Best days by matt white and Love by matt white are both great love songs You probaby know theses but you belong with me and love story by taylor swift are really catchy. please help me pick a good audition song?
I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LONG QUESTION =[ I JUST NEED HELP =[ =[ =[ well im in this workshop thing, but we're putting on a cabaret performance. i don't know anything we're doing yet, but we're "auditioning" to see what numbers we're placed in. so my point is, i'm not auditioning for a musical or play and i have no clue what character i want, let alone know what the characters are. :P i need a really good audition song with sheet music. the directors are really critical. everyone was asking if he liked their audition songs and well...no. the few ones they used as good audition song examples were "cabaret" from cabaret and anything from spelling bee. but now that they said that, i can't use them because they want us to pick our own, and i don't want to copy them :| they say if they've never heard of it, it's good. also, if they sang it on glee, you can't sing it. (which is bad because i wanted to do "Don't Rain on My Parade" even though i heard about it from drama club, not glee) if it is sung by a well-known person, you WILL get compared to them, so anything like that is a NO. Also, it should be in the same time period as the production you are auditioning for, so i guess my song should be relatively modern. you can sing a non-musical theater song, as long as it wasn't made in the past 5-10ish years, wasn't sung on glee or covered recently (as mentioned earlier) and isn't a big hit or anything. Also, the song should be age-appropriate. No Disney Movies Period Even If They Are Musicals. No Rent either...we are 13 and they said something a 13 year old girl would sing. someone asked about "dancing queen" but they said ABBA is iffy to do. the thing is, i love mamma mia, and... i sorta really want to do "Honey, Honey" :| but idk. there's a girl disregarding the rules and singing "Defying Gravity", so what the hell. nobody's freaking out about this as much as I am, my friend's singing a taylor swift song and not bringing sheet music. so i don't wanna sing "That Peppy Old Song" from "That Old Musical set in the Twenties about Flappers and Crap That Nobody Knows About and is a Ripoff of Chicago". they told us to sing stuff like that i guess, but i hate all of it and it doesn't show off my voice at all. and they probably know all those Old Twenties Musicals anyway. please help me pick a song...i had to leave early today so i didn't get my notes for ANYTHING and i have no clue what they hated and liked about my monologue. they couldn't decide what singing part to put me in at first but they decided on alto 1, my chest voice range right now is A3-B4 (it's smaller than usual because i have strep throat) and i can go up to around an F5 in head voice too. please help, i am freaking out (and it's 9:00 and i haven't eaten anything for 9 hours because i just got braces 3 days ago and i just found out i have strep throat and i had to miss half the theater workshop and a whole 5 hour reheasrsal for another show that was the first real rehearsal where we actually do stuff other than name learning and brainstorming and im NOT EVEN FRIGGIN KIDDING) :( okay, ignore all my complaining lol. just pleeeeeeease help me pick a song.... :( if you complain about my complaining you will be sacked..and if you fail to be sacked, the people responsible for sacking you will be sacked. monty python reference. just watched monty python and the holy grail. is going insane. 13 is a WONDERFUL idea :) i agree :)) but...they sorta complained about that too :(
Answer: Hi! I am a fellow actress and also am constantly wondering about what audition songs to sing for what not. I am going to suggest a song I guarantee no one else at your audition will sing. I think this song would be good for you because it sounds like your a belter, and this song requires great belting skills. The song is called "I Want More". Its from the Musical "Lestat". Its based on the movie "Interview With A Vampire" (with Kirsten Dunst). The song is sung by the character Claudia, who is only 10 and will never grow any older because she is a vampire. Here is the video of it on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crWKThXZgh0 And Here is the sheet music link (as it is not for sale any where) http://sheetzbox.com/piano/sheets/6638/Lestat-I_Want_More_PianoTabs.html to download just scroll down and press the download sheet button I wish you lots of luck with you Musical endeavors :)
What should I sing for the competition?
Our town is holding this mini American Idol competition and I want to audition. I am an Alto and have a very Julie Andrews kind of voice and love singing musical broadway kind of things. A sample of my singing is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OwSB5RgV88 - For Good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm9SLbkq6mg - In my Own Little Corner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbxIsKkqYro - Ten Minutes Ago Those songs are from the musicals Wicked and Cinderella I have come up with some possible songs to sing: For good The Wizard and I Seasons of love Hello Young Lovers In my own little Corner Ten minutes ago 16 going on 17 The Climb I'm not that girl Wouldn't it be loverly I got rythm goodmorninrg baltimore a whole new world I can't say no Sound of Music Hallelujah - Shrek Bali H'ai I dreamed a dream Home Beauty and the beast Look at me I'm sandra Dee Part of your world My favorite things I know its a lot, but could you help me narrow them down or suggest some more modern songs to sing?
Answer: I absolutely LOVE Wicked (I'm obsessed), but it is overused in competitions and auditions, as is Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid etc. If this competition is like American Idol, musical theatre isn't the main genre they're looking for, but it's the best genre there is (in my opinion). Out of the songs you suggested, Hallelujah sounds like a good choice. If you sang it, it goes quite high for an alto, but you can probably pull it off. If not, it can be taken down lower quite easily. If you like Rent, Seasons of Love Has lots of harmonies and layered vocals, but you might want to take a look at Without You - it's one of my favourites. EDIT: I just watched one of your videos and youtube - you have a really good voice, you just need to work on your expression. Don't go overboard on the emotion!
