License To Drive questions & answers
if i am applying for a first time license, i am 21, and i took an approved adult drivers ed, am i still required to take the driving test?
Answer: Yes, you do. If you read page 1-12 of the Texas Drivers Handbook it states only " Applicants ages 15-18 are not required to take a driving test if they present a Texas Driver Education Certificate…" So, unfortunately, if you are an unlicensed driver over 18 you do have to take the road exam. Don't worry though, you just drive around for a a few minutes and the hardest part is parallel parking but the space is pretty big.
cat B1 drivers licence entitlement.............?
cat B entitles you to drive a car , does cat B1 entitle you to drive a trasit van or mercedes sprinter type van ???? to the guy with the first answer , you have not answered my question , you have simply copy n pasted exactly what it says on the licence ,, please explain in full detail as i want to know if i can work as a multi drop , van driver in a transit or mercedes sprinter
Answer: As you obviously can't understand what your licence says, or the previous correct answer, let me try and explain in very simple terms. If you have category B on you licence, you can drive vehicles up to a laden weight of 3500kg, which includes Transit / Sprinter sized vans, and you can also drive category B1 vehicles, which is 3 or 4 wheeled vehicles which weigh up to 550kg. However, if you ONLY have category B1, you can ONLY drive vehicles of less than 550kg. Have you got the idea now? Category B, any vehicle up to 3500kg Category B1, vehicles weighing less than 550kg. Category B1 is "Motor tricycles, quadricycles and three or four wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight of NO MORE THAN 550 kg". Transits and Sprinters weigh over 1500kg empty - so I don't think they really fit into category B1. So, the answer to your question is: NO, A CATEGORY B1 LICENCE DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO DRIVE A TRANSIT. Category B1 is just for vehicles weighing less than 550 kg.........
Indiana resident buy car insurance in Chicago?
I go to college in Indiana and hold an Indiana license. I'm working in Chicago this summer and thinking about buying an affordable used car here since there are way more options in the city. I'll go back to Indiana in the fall and would like to register the car as an Indiana one. Since I can't drive the car without an insurance, I wonder if I can buy insurance here in Chicago and still register it as an Indiana car? Thanks a lot.

Traffic Violation help please ran a red light and need assistance?
Okay so I apparently ran a light I never saw. I was driving through Carson, CA at 8:00 AM trying to get to work. I work out in San Dimas. Because of poor scheduling I was forced to drive from Compton essentially to San Dimas but that's not the point. The point is my first day ever navigating the freeway in that area and I apparently ran the light to get onto the freeway from the ramp. Though i never saw the light and there was no sign or warning that a light was present on the ramp. The infraction as the ticket reads is : 21453 (a) Is there anything I can do? I've heard going to court will lessen the fees and reduce the points hit on my license. Is that true? Please I need any help I can get. The ticket is over 500 dollars and i'm a poor college kid. I really don't have that kinda cash. and i don't want the hit on my license if it can be helped. Any advise would help.
Answer: Going to court will not lessen the fees or reduce the points. Your only defense would be that you didn't see it, and that's really not a defense. Perhaps you could convince the hearing officer that it is not an obvious light. However, traffic school will prevent the points from going on your record. Ask the hearing officer for school and they will provide you with a list of approved schools; you may be able to take care of it all online. And unfortunately, with all fees and assessments, 21453 (a) comes to $619.
Should I let my sister drive my car even though she has a suspended license?
My older sister has recently asked me if she can borrow my car to attend her best friend's birthday bon fire at the beach this weekend. Problem is, she has no driver's license and is not covered by my insurance. She lost her license due to a failure to appear in court for a red light ticket, and hasn't done much to get it back since then (about 1-2 years i think). She's asked me to drive my car for little errands before, and I'll sometimes let her do that because it's just around town, but now she's trying to make a habit out of using my car for her social life, caring more about her friend's feelings than my well being. I know that in CA, if she gets pulled over or in an accident, then my car gets impounded for 30 days (at best, plus a $1000 fine to get it out) and I get a MISDEMEANOR on my record. What's worse is that she lives with me and my mother, so if I say no, I have to deal with her being mad and bitchy with me every single day until she decides to get over it (which could take a while). Also, her best friend is one of those "it's all about me" types, who will throw a hissy fit if everything in her life that day isnt perfect (something I don't want to deal with either) I understand that's it's her best friend's birthday, and I want her to have fun, but I don't know if her fun is worth the risks which only I would be taking... so what should I do? Take an ENORMOUS risk (one that could result in me probably losing my car for good and possibly my job) and let her go, or should I watch my own back and deal with my sister's disappointment? HELP? Other info: ~my sister kinda takes me for granted, and assumes that I'm gonna say yes even before she asks me for "favors" and gets pissed off and annoyed when things don't go her way. ~she asks me for favors a lot ~she swears she won't drink, and will go the speed limit and such (both I find hard to believe) --not to mention that it's not just HER driving ability I need to consider...what if someone hits her? I'm pretty darn sure i'm still getting my car impounded and going to jail and all that fun stuff
Answer: Sure you can let her drive your car.....but only if you are willing to suffer the financial consequences of her actions....and that's going to be bad. If she gets pulled over - the car gets impounded. You get to pay big bucks to get it out. That includes towing/storage Per Day, impound fees etc. So, if you have several hundred dollars laying around with nothing to do...... If she gets into an accident - since you knowingly let a person with a suspended license drive your car - you will be guilty of "negligent entrustment". That means - any person she hits can sue YOU personally for any and all damage and injuries your sister causes. Do you have a couple hundred thousand laying around with nothing to do? Because, it's really not that hard for an accident to cause several hundred thousand dollars in damage/injuries. And telling the family of the person she hit or killed while driving drunk unlicensed ..."I'm really sorry. But my sister gets real bitchy if she does not get her way" ain't gonna cut it. Over the years, I've handled thousands of automobile accident claims. Lots with alcohol and deaths involved. And in none of them, did the person cause the wreck on purpose. In none of them did they plan it or see it coming. They all thought it would happen to someone else. I was just running a little errand to the store to get smokes.....uh huh. Your sister has already shown her immaturity. She's lost her license for a reason. She "swears she won't drink"....but her word on that is good because she wants to willfully and deliberately break the law by driving with no license..... If you want to help your sister out....give her $20 and the number for a local cab company. They will be happy to take her to and from the party. I'll put it to you this way....As long as your sister has no license, she should never drive your car. Not for any reason. periond. If you let your sister drive your car - your every bit as stupid as she is.

When I turn 18, what is required for a Driver's License in Minnesota?
I decided to wait until I turn 18 to start driving to save my parents money (even though a lot of my friends are driving). Once I turn 18, what do I have to do? My brother said all that's required is the written test, then a driving test, then wait 6 months, and you're done. Is that true?
Answer: i think its you get your permit wait 6 months then get your license,i should know this cause i live in minnesota,i know that i had to wait 6 months before i got my "provisional" license, but that was when i was 17,so im not sure maybe if (since your an adult) you wont have to wait 6 months.
What is a good bicycle for a college student?
Okay, here's me situation. Me is currently living in a single-bedroom house with me mother and an elder brother. Me mother wants me to move out during the beginning of me freshmen year; she wants me to gain life experience. The city that me is living in is quite large, and there are quite a few of people looking for a roommate on craigslist. The problem is that me do not own a car nor licensed to drive. Me only transportation to the university is either bicycle or walking (perhaps public transportation). The kind of bicycle that me prefer is an old style. May be something like a cruiser. Me would like to have a basket and a light bulb in the front and a backseat. The budget of me is low (~$100.00). The bikes from craigslist suck.
Answer: Get an old Schwinn (1982 or older), 3-speed, 5-speed or 10-speed. They are extremely rugged, but heavy. I personally ride a Schwinn Varsity ten-speed 21 miles per day in city traffic. Most cities you will be able to find a functional Schwinn for your budget, especially during winter time. (note: on the west coast of the US, there seems to be an inflated used bike market...definitely try to wait till winter to shop for the bike, you will get a better price) Whatever you do, buy a bike lock and use it every time! Bike thieves are everywhere nowadays!
i got a "notice to appear" for 12500 (a) vc unlicensed driver. what's going to happen? :S?
I'm 18, I live in Peru, but i came to California on vacations to visit my dad and step mom. Yesterday, we went to my step mom friend's house, but we arrived 30 minutes early, so i decided to practice driving (that was the first time i drove a car) with my step mom next to me. I just wanted to drive around the block, but i accidentally crashed a car that was parked. Nothing happened to anyone, but the car had a little scratch. We told the owner that we were going to pay everything, that the insurance will cover it, but he was freaking out and called the police. The police arrived and asked me for my driver's license, but i didn't have one, so they gave me a "notice to appear" for 12500 (a) vc unlicensed driver, and in the note says that it's a misdemeanor but it doesn't say that i must pay a fine. This is the first time that I'm involved in something like that. Am i going to jail? What's going to happen? What should i do? Please help me! I'm supposed to return to Peru on August 5th. It was a stupid mistake and i'll never do it again! :S
Answer: Do NOT ignore the ticket if you ever intend to visit your dad again. While people do go to jail for misdemeanors, I can guarantee that jail would not be an option in your case. It is very likely that the case will be handled in court as an infraction, and no matter what it will be nothing more than a fine. If the notice to appear is for a date after August 5, go to the court earlier and see if you can have the matter advanced. If you can't, you can appear through counsel on cases like this, so if you can afford to hire an attorney that might make more sense than prolonging your stay in the US.
