Canadians travel to the USA frequently, we get in car accidents, food poisoning, heart attacks, get drunk, fall down, forget to take our pills, over eat, walk down the wrong road, get mugged, get sunburned. We are already IN THE USA when we need a doctor. Ocassionally a Canadian is sent to America and our health system pays if it is an emergency and a local Canadian Hospital cannot handle that emergency, this is very rare. I'm old, very old, retired, I do not know even ONE Canadian who has ever willingly travelled to USA for medical treatment, in my entire life!!!!!!!! The statistics on Canadians using US care are weighted by the huge number of Canadians in the USA at any given time. Thank you for your attention. Oh yes, a question: Did you really think we would pay tens of thousands out of pocket for American hospitals when it is entirely paid for by the Province here??????

I recently went to the doctors for a reoccurring ailment and was treated very briskly by my normal doctor. He's never like this. He's normally the kindest, most compassionate and caring health professional I know. I Don't know what could be wrong. Any ideas?

A few months ago I lost the hearing in my left ear due so several ongoing ear infections throughout childhood that were never treated properly while I was in care. I now wear a hearing aid for that ear and am almost completely deaf now although this hasn't stopped the recurrence of such ear infections. One of which I have right now along with tinnitus which means I have either the sensation of sound or actual sound i'm not sure, in my deaf ear its like a very loud high pitched noise. I'm confused as to how I have this as of course I can't hear anything in that ear. Being deaf in one ear is strange enough without this going on. I've been reading some stuff on tinnitus on the internet but none of the sites can explain how this can happen to a deaf person. Any one know? (There's no one to help in health so I've posted this twice.)

Answer: Ok, Im a speech therapist, so I have a little education about this. Tinnitus can originate in the outer ear (canal and ear drum), middle ear (three bones), inner ear (cochlea) or the brain. Tinnitus usually is the sensation of sound, not actual sound. That's why you can still "hear" it. It's not transmitting sound waves the way a normal sound would. If your doctor does an examination and can also hear the sound, then its an actual sound and can be prevented (usually by stopping one part of the ear from working). However, this is rare. Just realize that you "hear" it because it's not an actual sound being transmitted. So it has nothing to do with whether or not your ear functions properly. There are SOO many causes to tinnitus. And many times it's hard to diagnose exactly where it is originating, making it hard to stop. I'm assuming you're going to an audiologist for all this - talk to him about treatments that may help, depending on where it is originating.

My mamma cat had her first litter about 5 weeks back. She was very good at taking care of her kittens. My husbands sister is the owner of the daddy cat. She said she wanted to pick a kitten of hers as "breeders choice," which i had no problem with, however she decided to take her kitten when i wasnt home at the age of 3 and a half weeks. I asked her to bring it back and she said she wanted to bottle feed it so it would be a sweeter cat. I told her taking the cat that early only will make the kitten develop behavrial and health issues. Now she found out she cant keep the kitten. So she brought her back this morning. Mom cat doesnt reconize the kitten and the kitten doesnt know what nursing is! I'm so irritated but now most of all I just want the mamma cat to take her kitten back! I have two children and cant take even more time away from them by hand feeding this kitten! They were born on July 25th. This kitten already has a home along with one of her sisters with my cousin who is 15, but she goes to school and cannot take the kittens before they are weened. Any advice? Thanks The cat wasnt planned to be bred, in fact she was going to be fixed. I was against kitty abortion. Mamma cat got out of the bedroom at my husbands sisters we were keeping her in when we were bug spraying our house and she and the male cat hid together. I do plan on fixing her. I DO NOT want another litter!!!

Answer: At 5 weeks they should be eating pretty well on their own. Mix canned cat food with kitten milk or water and offer it in a shallow dish 3-4 times a day. Also offer a bowl of water. You'll have to show her how, but she can lap out of a dish.

I love my boyfriend and we have a good relationship besides the fact that he is becoming more and more lazy every day. He was laid off over a year ago at his job in construction and has been collecting unemployment ever since. At first he was working side jobs and making a little extra money, but now he's not even doing that. He said he didn't want to work because he needs to concentrate on school. He finally signed up for two classes this semester (he hasn't been to school for about 3 years) and claims that he can't even get a part time job because he can't concentrate on classes and work at the same time (note: he has tons of restaurant experience). He spends his money frivolously and doesn't keep me updated on his financial situation, so when he wants to eat or buy something he invites me to go and when it's time to pay I am the one that ends up paying for his lunch/dinner/snack, if he can't pay all of his half of the bills I have to cover them. He only studies and does school work the days of his two classes and the rest of the time he watches TV or plays video games. He won't do household chores and the only chore I ask him to do are the dishes. When he DOES do the dishes he waits until the sink is overflowing and even then only washes half of them. We never go out, not even on a lunch date, and if I ask to go somewhere with him to hang out besides watching television he says we're too broke. I work five days a week, sometimes I pick up extra shifts. I have twice as many bills to pay as him and sometimes I have to cover parts of his bills. I have depleted my savings account to zero and only had enough for my rent and car payment this month (oh yeah, and more than half of the water bill he's supposed to be in charge of); none for the cable, my health insurance, my phone, my car insurance, etc.I don't know what I'm going to do about those. I have been going to the doctor for migraine attacks and daily, chronic headaches. I pass out and have really scary "attacks" that stress me out beyond belief. I'm going through all kinds of health tests and discovering my body's own weaknesses. I'm honestly having the worst time trying to deal with all of this on my own and also act like a mother to him. I don't know what to do! I love him, we never fight, and he tolerates my sickness. The only thing that is making me unhappy is him not working and not being financially stable. I don't even care if it's not a well paying job, I just want him working so I know he will be fine if I all of a sudden can't work. I can't sit around and watch television all day, every day, spending my days off wasting away in front of the tube. When I try to tell him this he just blows me off. Please someone give me advice! :'(

Answer: You may love him, but you should either 1) move back in with your family or 2) try to find another place that is more affordable so that you can have a little extra money in your pocket after paying all your bills. Oh yeah...and did I fail to mention that when you leave DO NOT take him with you. Let him fend for himself. He is not your child, therefore you should not be held responsible for taking care of him. He is only doing this to you, because you haven't given him an ultimatum. Tell him get a job or it's over and he will be homeless. Remember: Men will only do what you allow them to do.

Only a man who could get a "Health care bill" that many people opposed passed could get this passed also. I do not see how anyone could argue against this, but surely someone will! Where to put the millions of gallons of water the great pump project was meant for and funds allocated for? Every year in the spring the Ole Mississippi river floods, levees break, some people die, Billions of dollars in damages and losses occur. This is a very dramatic and tragic event for some. The Federal government allocated money for Great pumps to be installed near Yazoo Mississippi to remove water from the river and take pressure off the levees. The problem is, the county Yazoo is in has no where to go with the water, no one in their county wants it, and no one in neighboring counties want it. Is it to far out of the realm of possibilities to build a pipe line to huge reservoirs dug in desert states like Arizona, Texas or Nevada? Or how about the bread basket states like Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, these states are having water table problems due to heavy irrigation. With a project like this, these heavy water users could draw upon this water for irrigation, and leave the ground water for drinking. Yes, underground pipe lines, just like the huge oil companies do, yes we would have to condemn most of the right of way to do it, but they can farm over it. Once in the reservoir of the arid state/bread basket state it could be used in very well thought out processes, like hydroponics and other crops that utilize the water well; only well thought efficient uses to be allowed. The reservoir could have two main levels, the second level is a level we do not draw away from more, because this level has gentle slopes and is a second fishing ground. Boating and recreational aspects could/should also be enjoyed with this resource! This would generate thousands of jobs in the agricultural communities and save a lot of drama and heartache in the flood areas. I still remember the Mayor of a small town in Tennessee when the Tennessee river recently deluged his city, he said "there is just no place to go with all the water!". The Tennessee river, Ohio river, Missouri rivers, the Waspininski (Wapsi river, in Iowa) and probably a few others I am unaware of all have dire flooding events every year and could benefit from a pump project. Not that long ago Obama said, there are 85 million less jobs in the US of A now, and 85 million people are just going to have to reinvent themselves. This is not a handout, and the new jobs will make us stronger. The thousands of workers who will have jobs because of this will not be unemployed and will be paying taxes. The job it saves may even be yours or a loved ones! Environmental impact statements needed? OK, here is an environmental impact statement. To save the levees, and billions and damages, we pumped water out of the river. We put a big screen over the inlet to sift out the gators. NO GATORS WERE HARMED! Actually before the great pump project was allocated money, an environmental impact statement was probably done.

The government is broke and not wanting to spend on anything other than the administrators wages and they are all hoping for a raise next year. You should re post this in some business section.
