Come join us for this fascinating presentation followed by the Board of Change and Recollective Summer Rooftop Party. Featuring:Kirsten Jacobsen,Education Director,Earthship BiotectureLight refreshments & cash barWhile most of America remains addicted to home building technologies that are expensive to build, require an endless stream of gas and electricity,are often vulnerable to fire and natural disasters, and require constant home maintenance,earthships have discarded obsolete models of residential construction and havetaken a completely new approach to homebuilding.What is an Earthship?Earthships are fully self-sufficient homes made of natural and recycled materials.The structural and thermal building blocks are used tires rammed with dirt. They heat and cool themselves naturally without consuming fossil fuels. They produce their own electric power with solar panels and wind turbines. They collect water from rain and snow melt and use it four times. Earthships grow a significant portion of food for their residents. These homes are autonomous, free of municipal utility wires, pipes and bills. Once complete the are virtually carbon zero. In short, an earthship is a home that provides people with heating, cooling,water, and sewage processing through intelligent, innovative, andinexpensive design.Earthships can be adapted to any climate and have been built in Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Jamaica, Bonaire, Scotland, England, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Spain and Japan. Most recently, an Earthship earthquake relief project was started in Port au Prince Haiti. Also, Earthship Biotecture will be starting a project this August in the interior of BC.Why Are Earthships Only Now Becoming Popular?Architect and innovator Michael Reynolds has been evolving the technology of earthships for over thirty years. Based in northern New Mexico, he has been the drivingforce behind the construction of hundreds of earthships across the United States and around the world. From survival shelter for hurricane-ravaged villages in Asia toa 1.2 million dollar custom earthship north of Santa Fe, NM, his innovations are bringing people back to the laws of nature in designing and building their homes.Traditional architecture is not filling the bill for what we need for the future to live on thisplanet.-Michael ReynoldsAbout Kirsten JacobsenKirsten Jacobsen has been building, promoting, photographing andliving in off-grid solar powered Earthships for 16 years. AsEducation Director for Earthship Biotecture she teaches alternativebuilding techniques such as mud plaster and reused bottle brick wallconstruction, lectures on Earthship solar power and water catchmentsystems for school groups and private seminars, acts as mediarepresentative for the company, designs educational displays focusingon Earthship design principles, helps organize international Earthshipbuilds and oversees the out of country training program while helpingto build Earthships in Belgium, Scotland, England, Spain, France,Hawaii, Mexico and Jamaica. She manages the popular Earthship InternProgram and selects interns from around the world to work onautonomous homes at Earthship Biotecture headquarters in Taos, NewMexico. details: I live in Hawaii, and my sister lives in LA. I graduate High School in two years. Anyway, I LOVE the UK, I just love the atmosphere there. I love their culture and everything. LA seems nice, but I am terrified of earthquakes. I know some aren't that bad, but you never know. Thing is, I want to be a PART TIME makeup artist, but idk if London has many oppurtunities for that. What should I do?
Answer: Have a job lined up before you move. Be aware that there is a reason Londoners always carry umbrellas. BTW, some ppl would love to live in HI.
Los Angeles or London?

Answer: Is is (almost) impossible for an American to get a work visa in Britain, as it is for a Brit to get one in the U.S. So you can scratch London off your list. The Brits don't mind us vacationing there and spending money, but they don't like us coming there and take jobs away from their citizens. Understand that California has the second highest unemployment rate in the country. Jobs are almost non existent, and landlords won't rent to people that don't have a job. If your sister isn't willing to allow you to stay with her save your money and stay in Hawaii.

Answer: As you are not a citizen of the EEA (European Economic Area) you cannot just up sticks and move to the UK...or any other part of the EEA. If you have a shed load of money to invest it wouldn't be such a problem, however if you don't then you are going to need a work permit and to get one of those you will need a skill that is in high demand here. I don't think a make up artist would be on the high skills list. You can find all the rules and regulations at this Government Border Agency site... http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/ You would also find that London is one of the most expensive places in the world to live!
Questions for First Nations/American Indian People?
Do you feel like its a coincidence that all the worlds SuperPowers are going broke mainly the Western Nations? Many of whom use the most resources from the Earth. I mean am about to sound really crazy, but Things around the world seem like their getting little out of control. Extremely Hot Summers, Extremely Cold Withers, Flash Floods everywhere, I believe Arizona got the most rain in the deserts they ever seem. Not to mention the Oil Spill What do you here from Our Politicians saying every week? GO GREEN, GO GREEN save the planet. I hear them, but for some reason I don't feel like getting a car that gets better gas mileage, and buying a low flow toilet is going to make much of a different. For example I drive a Monte Carlo its gets 21 miles a gallon I don't feel like getting a Civic that gets 35 miles per gallon is much of a different am still burning gas just delaying the inevitable. Their are so many people out of work. Tint city's popping up in California and Hawaii, but with unemployment so high many people have a lot of time to think. I myself am looking for a second job. Yet with so much time on my hands I've been reading, and watching the world. Things to me just seem like their going wrong and am not just talking about Economically am talking Menially,Physically,Emotionally, and Spiritually.Am I going to Far? Am I just looking at the world expecting to see a perfect picture that was never their? I HATE ASKING THIS QUESTION too you guys because I've asked it before, I don't believe the world is going to end in 2012 but I do believe their will be a change thats What You Guys Told Me. I mean every thing wrong thats been happening you guys have warned about for years. John Hollow Horn wants said Some day the earth will weep, she will beg for her life, she will cry with tears of blood. I heard a nother wise Native say a Spirtual waking is needed. If Mother Earth really is in trouble I assume the best people to save her would be you native's seeing as your still connected to her. You guys are like some of the few people left who still have Religions still Indigenous to the land. Yet you keep it to your selves. Am not saying you should go door to door like others and preach NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE!!! but I know The Hopi RainBow Warriors Prophecy. For Those Who Don't. The story goes like this: Some time in the future, the Indians said, the animals would begin to disappear. People would no longer see the wolf, or the bear, or the eagles. And, the story goes, the giant trees would also disappear. And people would fight with each other and not love each other. And, the story goes, the beautiful rainbow in the sky would fade away, and people would not see the rainbow anymore. Well, children would come. And these children would love the animals, and they would bring back the animals. They would love trees, and they would bring back the giant trees. And these children would love other people and they would help people to live in peace with, each other. And these children would love the rainbow, and they would bring back the beautiful rainbow in the sky. For this reason the Indians called these children the rainbow warriors. Ok. Am sure this dosn't mean Physically but I did read something about the RainBow Warriors will grow tired of how people teach the earth and will put their faith in their actions not their words I hope it dosn't mean a battle, but only you guys know your own Prophecys. What am saying is its looks like the Mother Earth is in Trouble. You Natives have known this sense people started colonizing your lands.You've known other people would come to your land before they even came I believe it was in a Mohawk Prophecy 1 of 3 I think. You've also known about the other 3 races before you saw them. The Lakota Medince Wheel http://www.tcedc.org/images/MedicineWheelnew.jpg What am saying is, I Understand am on Indian Land. Florida if your wondering, but I also have a right to be here According to some of your very own Religions. You knew the other 3 races would be brought together and we'd be brothers. Or at least we where suppose to be, Do brothers not Fight and Make up?? Heck am black you know the story of my people We fought with each other Buffalo Soldiers and we fought tog JMas V. First The Mayans Where NOT in South America they were in Southern Mexico and Norther Centeral America and am not saying the world is going to end in 2012. I EVEN SAID THAT. I just said I feel a CHANGE COMING!!! Read all of it

Answer: Yes. Third of plants and animals at risk of extinction' One third of plant and animal species are now at risk of extinction, a UN report is expected to conclude this week. By Matthew Moore Published: 1:25PM BST 09 May 2010 The world's biodiversity is threatened by the economic growth of countries like China, India and Brazil, the study will say. While Western countries are increasingly aware of the need to protect endangered species, the developing world's appetite for raw materials is destroying vulnerable ecosystems, the report's authors will warn. Population growth, pollution and the spread of Western-style consumption are also blamed for hitting plant and animal populations. Species at risk include the fishing cat, as its wetland habitats in India, Pakistan and southeast Asia are converted for agriculture. Maritime ecosystems are under particular threat, with the south Asian river dolphin among the species whose numbers have plummeted due to damming and overfishing. The latest report – the third edition of the UN's Global Biodiversity Outlook – is based on data obtained from studies in more than 120 countries across the world. It builds on recent work for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) which showed that 21 per cent of all known mammals, 30 per cent of amphibians and 35 per cent of invertebrates are threatened with extinction. (Revelation 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. Revelation 8:8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; Revelation 8:9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.)
Are We Going To Die In 2012..?
I know it seems crazy but i'm horrified of the thought of dying in 2012. I saw the movie, which was a BAD idea!! It scarred me for life. I didn't start believing until recently coming across news articles of natural disasters happening almost everyday all over the world. It seems like everythings getting worse every passing day. I can't remember all of what states they were in but there were some Tornados that killed about 8 people and The Tsunami in Hawaii, Earthquakes and even Volcano Eruptions. I'm scared that where i live is bound to be next. Aside from that, i read recently that the earth has a ton of sun spots all over it and that it may possibly be shrinking! I'm terrified and don't know what to think. It's just ironic how this is all happening around 2012. Although 2012 is 2 years from now, it's pretty darn close. Can someone give me some advice, i've been having constant nightmares about everything and i legit have been planning my life out as though i'm going to die on December 2012. I'm not joking about any of this, i'm scared to death. Do you guys believe, give me your theories because i don't want to be manipulated into the 2012 horror stories i've heard so far although it seems it's gotten to me well enough. Too bad i'm not a kid but thanks. I'm pretty sure i don't need to be a kid to believe in crap like this. It's horrific and has half to do with the movie the rest is based on reality.
Answer: No. That was a "M O V I E". You kids need to get over it. That question is asked at least fifty times a day. The idea came from the Mayan calendar, which ends Dec. 21, 2012. That does NOT mean the world will end, it doesn't mean the Earth will end, it doesn't mean there's going to be an Apocalypse or an Armegeddon. The poles won't shift, glaciers won't melt and there won't be any cataclysmic earthquakes, floods or volcanoes. It simply means their calendar starts over. The future years coincide with the past ones, so the calendar is just repeated. Chill out!! There are always earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, etc., happening on Earth at practically any moment. With the internet, you just happen to find out about ALL of them. Nothing new is happening, except they happen in different places. The chances of the world coming to an end is about as likely as a monkey writing "World Peace" in Sanskrit ..it ain't gonna happen. It's NOT reality.
What is the best state to live in?
I don't like the snow that much, but I don't like too much heat either. Yet, I want to be close to the ocean. But I don't want to live in Hawaii either. :P I want maybe a big city, with little crime, great schooling, nothing too drastic like hurricanes or earthquakes happening, fresh air, good environment, ect. Can anyone help me?
Answer: Seattle Washington I don't live there but I know a few people who do, and they love it.
What do you think the NCAA Football conferences will look like when the earthquake is over? Are mine good?
BQ: When DO you think everything (all conferences) will end their expanding?
BQ2: Do you think the WAC will recover like their commish claims they will?

*Pittsburgh I've been looking up earthquake information, and then I found a few websites saying there was gonna be a big earthquake here in CA in September. IF we do have an earthquake here, will the tsunami go like maybe towards like Hawaii or somewhere in that direction?
Answer: California doesn't generate tsunamis. We're a transform boundary, meaning that things move horizontally. There is no vertical movement of the seafloor. Further, there are no huge landslides ready to plunge. As there is no mechanism to rapidly displace a large volume of water, you cannot get a tsunami.
I must point out though, for my own sanity, that nobody can predict earthquakes. Not me, or you, a university, the government, the Pope, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, nobody.
I can predict that we will have *an* earthquake tomorrow, because we have about a dozen or so 1.0 - 3.0 earthquakes every day, too small for anyone to feel. But I cannot tell you, "There will be a large earthquake in August."
That's just b-llsh!t and impossible. So don't listen to it. The historic tsunami that struck the Hilo side of the Big Island on April 1, 1946 originated from an earthquake in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, 3,700 km away. If it took 5.0 hours for the tsunami to reach Hawaii, what was its speed in [m/s]? (For speed comparison: a typical jumbo jet travels around 270 m/s; the speed of sound in air is approx. 340 m/s.) (Note: This requires only kinematics, not the wavelength-frequency equation.)
I am given:
t = 5.0 h = 18,000 s
a = 9.8 m/s^2
Would I use constant acceleration kinematics? Such as this equation:
v = at + v_o
Would this be appropriate? Could someone please help me? I'd really appreciate it.
Answer: d = vt
v = 3700/5 = 740 km/hr x 1000m/1 km x 1hr/3600s = 205.55 m/s
v2 = v1 + a·t
d2 = d1 + (v1 + v2)·t/2
d2 = d1 + v1·t + a·t2/2
d2 = d1 + v2·t - a·t2/2
v22 = v12 + 2a(d2 - d1)
Average velocity: vav = Δd/Δt
Average acceleration: aav = Δv/Δt
Has anyone heard of the earthquake that might happen in September of this year?
Tsunami kinematics problem?
