Greenland Shark dead on dirty jobs?
Just watched the Greenland Shark episode of Dirty Jobs, and at the end, they tag a "live" Greenland shark, I'm thinking it was actually dead and they still tagged it for some reason, maybe just for the show? The thing wasn't moving at all, and there seemed to be no rush to get it back in the water. Then, once they put it in the water, it just sort of sank to the bottom. Anyone else see it and think the same thing? Other opinions?
Answer: Greenland sharks are extremely slow moving and typically live in deep cold water. It may have seemed like it just sank to the bottom, but that is where it lives, so it probably wanted to get back to its natural habitat.
How far south and inland has the Greenland shark penetrated? Has it been found in rivers?
Answer: Greenland sharks normally range in depths of 0-3,937 feet (0 to 1,200 m) and temperatures of 34-68°F (1 to 12°C). In the north, the shark migrates near shore in search of warmer waters. Some of them are reported to be seen in St Lawrence River ( Baie-Comeau, about 350 kilometers northeast of Quebec ) http://www.canadiangeographic.ca/magazine/ma04/feature.asp A few (!) sightings of Greenland shark in the Southern Atlantic near Argentina and in Antarctic waters are reported too. http://marinebio.org/species.asp?id=464

Is Antarctica a cold land Desert? Are parts of it or all of it classed as a desert? Is the "GREENLAND SHARK" a cold "DESERT" animal?
Answer: Yes Antarctica at the south pole is a desert as the annual precipitation is meager. Most all of Antarctica would be classified as a desert. The Arctic at the north pole also receives meager precipitation however an ice sheet by itself isn't classified as a desert. The Greenland Shark lives in the waters around the Arctic ocean so No, it is not a cold desert animal.
