Heralded as an important protopunk group, they were little known during their brief lifetime, though various members later achieved renown in Pere Ubu and the Dead Boys. Craig, meanwhile, migrated to the East Coast where he founded the bands Saucers, The Plan, & The Bell System in the fertile Connecticut music scene of the late 70’s & 80’s. Now living in Indianapolis, Craig has enlisted some of your favorite local degenerates, and fine musicians all, from The Dockers, Order of the Black Hand, The Relatives, and Hypnotic Velvet Propellers. Hi Everyone! The Arthritis Foundation was very impressed with our volunteers for their Zoo Walk and would like our help with a fundraising event for Juvenile Arthritis. I will be posting a few different shifts for this day, so sign up for the shift(s) that you want to help with. Dinner & Auction event Chaparral Suites Resort, Scottsdale, AZ This posting is for the Setup Crew 10:00am - 2:00pm set up tables and auction items (6 volunteers) The kids with arthritis are very involved in the fundraising event, since the fundraising for this event Goes directly to Juvenile Arthritis programs. Rocker Billy Bragg is currently raising awareness of a charity initiative he set up to help change the lives of prison inmates through music. The singer was at a special screening of a documentary called Breaking Rocks about the initiative in Glasgow last week. Bragg established his project Jail Guitar Doors in 2007 to mark the fifth anniversary of Clash singer Joe Strummer, who was well known for his charity work. He was born Steven William Bragg in Essex around the time Tommy Steele was climbing the singles charts with Happy Guitar and the Soviet Union was launching Sputnik 2 into space. Today, on the verge of the release of his eleventh and best album, Mr. Love & Justice, he is known as Billy Bragg by his loyalists worldwide yet he is still called Steven by his Mother and still referred to as the Bard of Barking by the press. He has worked, and worked is the operative verb here, alongside British parliamentarians, unskilled unemployed workers, members of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, young music hopefuls, unsung buskers in the street, incarcerated convicts, newly liberated refugees, punk rockers and striking dockers. Its been a quarter century since he took the stage for his first solo gig at North London Polytechnic, a concert advertising him under the first name Billy so his family wouldnt spot his new career move. Since then our Billy has traveled the world and spoken to everybody twice. Billy Bragg has recorded hit singles, composed Top Ten albums, penned political anthems sung at rallies, kept alive traditional English folk songs, put his own spin on Americas greatest folk catalog and sung his heart out doing so. He has appeared on both MTV and late night highbrow chat shows, singing his mind on the first and speaking his mind on the latter. The Bard Of Barking has written essays for many daily newspapers of record and several notable weekly journals of comment. Perhaps his most memorable and eloquent journalism essay was his emphatic A Genuine Expression of the Will of the People, which was but one firm voice in the greater public campaign for the reform of the House of Lords. In 2006 he authored his first book, The Progressive Patriot, an eloquent protest against the extremist British National Party electing twelve councilors in his east London hometown, electing them in the very locality which molded both the young Billy and his beliefs and, in bitter irony, contains the street so proudly named Bragg Close in his honor. But then London and politics are in the Bards blood just like the milk and one sugar in his tea; here is the sole pop musician, the lone political activist and the only common citizen from the East End to be seriously and quite publicly nominated for a statue of himself to be cast and then mounted on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. For a man of the people and of the streets he is indeed. Starting out those twenty five years ago as a singing-in-the-street punk/rock urchin truly left its mark on Billy as a quarter of a century later Our Man Bragg led The Big Busk, a successful yet hilarious event which saw over 500 happy people perform massed ensemble versions of classic busker material such as Knockin On Heavens Door and Maggie May directly in front of the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank of the Thames. 500 grinning faces whove never been close to a famous person before as over three thousand guitar strings were plucked enthusiastically, many of those strings in tune. Equally as remarkable the past ten years witnessed Billy Bragg collaborating with both Woody Guthrie and Ludwig Van Beethoven, no small feat given Guthrie died in 1967 and Beethoven one hundred and forty years before that. But when Nora Guthrie saw Billy perform in New York at a Woody celebration one summer she knew she had found the musician to edit the lyrics and apply the music to her late fathers unpublished songs. Collaborating with the US indie rock group Wilco, the two Woody/Billy albums, Mermaid Ave. (Vols. 1 & 2), gave Billy Bragg a pair of sizeable North American hits and exposed him to a new audience. In 2007 Billy was commissioned to write lyrics for the Ode To Joy for a gala concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London. There the Bard of Barking met Her Majesty who later requested a copy of Beethovens score with Billys signature on it. The day before he met the Queen our man Bragg had been awarded the Classic Songwriter award by Q magazine in London. Introduced by K.T. Tunstall he strode to the podium to collect his award with the sound of a lusty standing ovation ringing round the room. One of the first in the audience to shake his hand in congratulations during that warm moment was no less than Sir Paul McCartney. Typically Billy used the attention of the record industry audience to make a plea for contributions to his program to supply guitars to prison inmates so they might rehabilitate themselves through music and gain self-esteem and a hobby or even a career. The name of this program is Jail Guitar Doors, a name Billy chose in honor of his early heroes, The Clash, who had a song by that name. It is apparent to all observers of the current music scene that although the pride of Barking nominally toils in the pop music field a mere roll call of his hits and his classic songs would only suggest what Billy Bragg does. Such a roll call would fail entirely to declare what Billy Bragg is today or what he has meant and still means to those who have heard his melodic challenge to the status quo. To use a quote by his one of his heroes, Bob Dylan, the voice and songs of Barkings singing son bring hope to the vanquished and humility to the mighty. Continuing that path so accurately described by Dylan is Billy Braggs new album, Mr. Love & Justice, featuring his band The Blokes and particularly his old pal Ian McLagan of Small Faces and Faces fame. The albums title sweetly suggests the quixotic twin themes of Billys most heartfelt songwriting; our human frailties in romance and the never-ending pursuit of a fairer society. Produced by his longterm sidekick Grant Showbiz and featuring a guest appearance by no less than Robert Wyatt on the first track, I Keep Faith, the dozen songs of Mr. Love & Justice reaffirm Billy Bragg as no mere pop star or jobbing songwriter but as someone somehow so obviously greater than the sum of his parts. For the Bard of Barking and his myriad activities do indeed give us all hope, they inspire us and through his musical declarations he continues to shine a light which cuts through the longest shadows, which remains steady in the darkest night. The Barking lad referred to by The Times as a national treasure still has much to say and on Mr. Love & Justice he says those things as faithfully and articulately as ever. Hes speaking for us all.

Hey pplz I recently received two pairs of Dockers' slacks as a gift, khaki and really light khaki (almost ivory/off white). What can I wear with these that is stylish/preppy but not nerdy/geeky? My style is mostly jeans and a polo/t-shirt/shirt w/ either sneakers of leather shoes Thanks in advance :D

Hello and thank you for reading this. I recently tested and passed on a reading comprehension exam for the Union Pacific train crew position. I have done a lot of research and still have a few questions. If I don't live close to the city where the position is located, will the UP provide hotel and eating expenses during training or would I have to drive 100+ miles each day, assuming a job is offered and taken. Does the UP pay during training and if so, how much would you have to guess it would be? Is the interview process casual or up-tight? Should I wear my carhart overalls and red wings or dockers with a pearl snap button up? I already understand the work schedule and demand of the rail road but about how much home time does one have on a monthly basis? I really want this position. I'm kind of carrying a "torch" cause my grandfather put in 38 years, started with the rock island in chicago and retired with the UP, now my uncle, his son, is on his 18th year as an engineer, and have another uncle in Chicago as a Signal Person, so I really want to keep it in the family and keep it going. In case it matters, the job is out of Ft. Worth, TX. Last question, just came to me, I hear that you can get bumped around, but is that only in your seniority "hub" or is that nation wide? Answer: I hired out in San Antonio about 4 years ago, and am just now working full time, I have been cut off and called back numerous times, I did a two year stretch with out working for UP in that time, it's part of having little seniority. Just wanted to get that out there before I try to answer any of your questions. They might put you up in a hotel, for example, Laredo is in the SA hub, and guys who hired out in Laredo were put up in a hotel in SA during the first part of training, because they didn't offer training classes in Laredo. As far as pay, I really can't remember, and I'm sure it has changed, but don't expect to get rich during that time. As far as the interview goes, you don't have to wear a suit and tie, but look presentable, wear a button down shirt, tucked in, at least look like you care about your appearance. As far as time at home goes, I usually get about 24 hrs. at home between trips, being gone about 36-40 hrs. at a time. And UP's seniority is strictly in the hub where you hire out, but hiring out in Ft. Worth could mean working in McAlester, OK, or Big Spring, TX or Longview, all of those places are part of the Ft. Worth service unit, and you could, with little seniority, be forced to any of those locations.

Answer: Just there to add some pretty colours to the September graphics really. Well yes they've lost a few players but if you take Buddy, Rioli and Hodge out of Hawthorn - Daisy, Didak and Fraser out of the Pies or Pods, Hunt and Gazza out of the Cats you still have three bloody good teams. Freo have no depth and that showed big time last week. Fact is Carlton WILL want to win. They will not want to travel to WA for the first final. It's a bit sad really - would have hoped they could add a bit of novelty to the finals (by winning one) but all they'll add is colours for a week.

Where can I buy good dress pants for men? I don't like Dockers or Old Navy pants. They seem to wrinkle really quick by wearing them for 2 minutes. So good quality pants that I can check out in the store (already tried Kohl's or Macy's) and then order online (because of weird size that most stores don't cary). Skinny and tall men not short and fat.

Now, as I've already said they got me to wear slacks by Chaps and Dockers along with button-up short sleeve shirts by the same brands and I was wondering if you guys think i should keep this style, im pretty comfortable with it , its really comfy for me i find , but when i go back im just nervous about people staring at me ect. i know its kinda lame but i am nervour, what do you think?

Answer: Sorry what do you mean "when I go back"? Wear what you like wearing. If I was worried about people's opinion on my clothes I wouldn't go out as people who think that I either look great or ridiculous. If you feel that people will ridicule you, why not keep them for when you are at home without visitors but as I have said, you should wear what you like wearing and forget about other people's opinion. I just moved in with my grandparents and they make me wear like casual slacks that are like Dockers and Chaps, that are different colors and short sleeve button down shirts by also Chaps, just wondering if any other kids/teens dress like this? also give detail of what you wear on a day to day basis, brands ect.

Answer: To be honest, no. At least nobody I've seen. I wear Aeropostale, Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, and Derek Heart most often. I shop at Rue 21 and Hot topic a lot as well. But you should wear whatever you feel the best in. Be your own person! That's my advice.(:
